Is there a way to tell friendship level? I'm trying to tell how close I am to getting some of my villager's pictures

Yep!!

latest

There's different interactions at every level so you can easily tell ^^

Is it even possible to get pictures? I’ve tried everything and have never gotten one even

I haven't personally gotten one yet but other people have! Have you tried giving them wrapped FOREIGN fruit every day?

I've gotten two by giving my villagers a fruit every day for a few weeks! (They don't give anything when it's your island's native fruit though.) It just takes some time.

Yeah I gave DIY presents but never got them
Out of curiosity, which DIYs were you giving them? More valuable items are much more likely get you an item in return (and thus, the chance at a pic!) It seems to be completely random when they choose to give them though.

I've gotten ten. As long as you're at level 5 or 6 from the above graphic, you've got a 10.6% chance of getting their picture in return.

Here's a trick that got me three in one day: wrap foreign fruit (I usually wrap 3 to give to one villager) and let the game autosave. When you speak with your target the first time, give them the gift. If they don't give you their picture in return, immediately hit the home button, close the software, then go back in. Because you let the game autosave, the gift should be already ready to give. Now try again and see what you get in return. If it's not the picture, do what I described again. It may take a few tries, but I got Tammi, Cyrano, and Rizzo all within 30 minutes of each other by doing this.

Thanks! I guess I’m gonna try and grind them soon. I wish Nintendo didn’t make it so hard though

If you don’t mind using your materials, giving them diy workbenches works too. That’s how I got most of my pictures (I got 5 of my villagers’ pictures).

You can also do iron wall lamps. They do burn through clay like mad though. I feel like if the villagers could hang those up, it'd be like the sun in their homes.

It's completely random when they'll give you their picture. Dom and Audie have been at Best Friend levels since April, and I only just got their photos recently. I've been very unlucky on that front. My friend is lucky and got a photo from every one of his villagers by May.

I use the restart method and have spent over an hour trying to get a photo from Marina, to no avail. I am so sick of watching that opening loading screen lol.

foreign fruit (wrapped) is definitely the cheapest and best method of getting pics, I’ve gotten five or six of them this way. Marina is just being stubborn desite being the max friendship tier.

Not sure if this is entirely helpful lol but I heard somewhere that if you have a construction project going, your villagers will donate bells equal to their friendship level. Although you won't be able to tell the friendship level of a specific villager, I thought this was pretty neat that they added it in.

No I have not. Is that a special key to getting one?

You have to give them a gift where they have chance to give you an item back. This is determine by the item sell value. Non native fruit is a popular choice because you have a 50% chance of getting an item back and it doesnt ruin a villager's house or clothing. Some people care about having original villagers either to keep or to sell or try hard to coordinate.
