Yes. 10 pattern spaces is never enough. It's one of the things that really bugs me about New Leaf. I wish we had 30.

You can't have more than 10 with you, but you can save a lot of patterns with Mabel, it might be handy sometimes

The only way you can get more is to create new characters

It's really horrible. You can talk to Mabel to save some of your patterns you'd like to use in the future that you'd be replacing in the mean time (that seasonal pattern replacing).

But yes, making another side character and talking to Sable is probably the best way to get more pattern slots.
