Is there a villager you thought you liked, but just couldn't connect with?

Filbert.

I've had him in my New Leaf town for seven years, so when I came across him island hopping I was like "WELCOME HOME BUDDY". Then once he moved in I immediately changed my mind on him.

Punchy! His face is cute, but I wanted him to be friends with Bob and they never hang out! Bob hangs out more with Rosie or Judy than anything. He'll be replaced with Ankha as soon as possible.

Naomi for me. I really like her but we just don’t really connect. Debating on replacing her with another snooty. The weird part is that I really connect with Gigi but not Naomi. I also am having difficulty with Lionel as well.

I really wanted to like Hazel. I had her on my dream list before the game released. And I was surprised when she randomly showed up in my campsite. But her house made me change the way I looked at her. I used to think of her as artsy for whatever reason but her house is sporty. Started to think of her as some kind of gym teacher and that kinda ruined her for me.
She is still cute to me but I let her move out.
Wow that's disappointing! In HHD, she's a mangaka/comic writer, so to hear that she's sports themed now is kinda meh :/

Probably Pango. She was on my very first island and I picked her mistakenly thinking she was a new character. I was disappointed when I found out she wasn't, but I thought her design was still pretty decent by anteater standards so I kept her around. Initially she was pretty friendly, and while she was easily the villager I interacted with the least, she still gave me some cool gifts so I didn't mind her company. However, I eventually got my hands on Audie and Bianca, and decided that I needed to get rid of Pango because I never really felt connected to her, even if I thought she was fine, and I do NOT have the willpower to take on three peppy villagers on one island.

Things derailed pretty quickly. She must've known she was being targeted, because she made her last few days on my island a living hell. She repeatedly pissed off my villagers (including sweet little Hopkins who wouldn't hurt a fly because he loves bugs too much), and whenever she had a thought bubble, she would instead give me dumb items like baby furniture and trash cans (the latter was given to me multiple times). It got to a point where I decided to TT to get her out, and she still wouldn't budge. Eventually, after making her rounds with all of my poor, innocent villagers, she finally decided to leave, and I legitimately got off of my couch and started jumping with joy. She left, and the following day, I got Beau! Everything worked out in the end. As a memento, I keep her poster in my bathroom now, facing the toilet because that's where she belongs after how rude she was towards everyone.

TL;DR Pango grew on me after picking her by accident, but lost all of her goodwill in a matter of days by frequently angering my other villagers and giving me trash cans because she probably knew I'd give her the boot if she asked.

diana is so pretty and cute and pastel but she was so mean to me in new leaf and i felt like it was way harder to befriend her than my other snooties! i always felt like she hated me (even though that’s stupid lmao) so i let her go and have avoided her in nh as well.

I read the in-game dialogue quite a lot, so when it feels like the words on the screen really don't match the face I'm looking at, it interferes with my ability to connect with the character...

So as an example, I picked Snake over Genji because the latter's (serious-looking) expression really doesn't match up with the upbeat, "strive to the swolest very best" オイラ/Jock personality.

Lately it was Audie. I replaced her with Ketchup, who is much more playful. Audie just wasn’t very fun. She never did anything exciting like the other villagers did besides workout. Audie has shown up twice on mystery islands since, but I pass her.

Also Wolfgang. Loved him in New Leaf but the grandpa dialog in New Horizons doesn’t work for him.

a lot of the more popular villagers. i moved villagers like cookie and diana into my new leaf town, and while they're very cute and i love their designs, they just didn't stick with me as well as random move-ins tend to do. i’m trying to avoid that in new horizons by finding villagers randomly and seeking out villagers i've already had that have stuck with me.

Marshal.

Took me the most amount of time besides Poppy to get but unlike Poppy I truly can't connect with him for some reason? Maybe because I prefer other smugs? lol.

Back in NL I bought Beau and Marshal both because they were popular, and I thought they would fit well in the aesthetic. In the end, I didn't end up liking them despite how cute they were! I won't make that mistake again! To be honest, I connect more with the villagers who are more unexpected. For instance, I really love Ursala and Mott- and Mott being a completely random move in! I think it's important to not go with the hype and find who you'll enjoy having on your island, despite the popularity. I found Drago in a campsite, and I absolutely adore him and he's quickly become one of my favorites. Though I don't have room for him, he will be getting a permanent home on my boyfriend's island soon!

Mint. I invited her randomly from a nook miles island. Thought she looked cute and have never had her before so thought I'd give her a try. But other than being cute, I don't really click much with her.

I'm also sadly finding Marina quite boring. Which makes me sad as she is super cute and I love when she sings. But she's just boring. She's asked 3 times to leave and I keep saying no in case I regret it but maybe I should try someone new?

Octavian.
I had him in my secondary NL town before and since Zucker is my absolute favorite, I thought it would be cool to have a 2nd octopi villager.
Just couldn't connect.
I know he's cranky but I couldn't get past his perpetual frown... I also didn't really like his default catchphrase ("sucker" - really?).
I have two other crankies and I love them though.

imo, alot of the normal villagers designs are cute, but they're just kind of boring...
surprisingly, i feel like cranky villagers are more fun to talk to (even if i first hate their designs)

Erik for me, I saw him on a stream whereby someone was island hopping for him and I was like straight away... why have I never took much notice of his cuteness and then when I found him on the island I straight away took him, after a month of having him I was willing to get rid of him over Ribbot who I’m not too fond of tbh. I feel like I just didn’t connect with him. However I had sherb as another lazy that I hadn’t planned to get and I preferred him to Erik by far!
