Is there a villager on your island that you hated but now love?

I was annoyed to have Buck on my island at the start of the game as he wasn't all that great but now I love him! I did let him leave my island sadly but I'm happy he was there! I also grew to like Hopper the cranky penguin who I HATED from Wild World but he really grew on me as well and I felt really guilty letting him leave. Does anyone else have a villager they once disliked/hated but have grown attached to? Hopkins is one that I also didn't like too much but love now and still have on my island! :)

Tank. He was my starter jock and it wasn't until he left that I missed him. Luckily I found him on a mystery island and was able to get him back with his original house.

I had more of the opposite situation. Villagers I thought I would like but didn't once I had them on my island.

Al and Boyd. Both are gorillas, and as far as I can tell, that species isn't really liked in the Animal Crossing community. But those weren't my reasons. Al has a really strange appearance. He was one of my starters, and my brother had found him on a mystery island. I didn't want him as one of my starters, which I admit was shallow basing him on looks. But he ended up being one of my favorites on my island. Boyd moved in on his own when I bought some land and I couldn't find a villager I was looking for on the mystery islands. Not wanting Boyd wasn't about looks. I learned not to be judgmental from the villagers for those reasons. Eventually, Boyd grew on me. Now he's one of my favorites. Now, if Boomer moved in, I'd have to change his catchphrase from "human" to something better. It just sounds weird.

I've had a lot of those too! Strange how that happens :/

That's awesome! I also have a bad habit of judging villagers on how they look rather than how the act

Hate is a strong word, but I wasn't sure how I felt about Roscoe when I saw he moved in. I wasn't sure I wanted to keep him until one day I saw him at the plaza flapping his little arms to the beat that only animals can hear when they're about to sing. He was the cutest thing ever on the face of the planet and now I can't imagine life on my island without him.

Hazel was my starting Sisterly villager and I was not a fan in the beginning. I was planning on letting her go, but she grew on me and now she's never leaving. There's something nice about having the villagers who started everything off :)

Ikr! I totally agree with that! I kind of want to invite buck back to my island! Hazel is cute :)

aww that’s so cute!!

Beardo. I was so angry when I saw that he was in my campsite as my forced smug move-in. Now I absolutely adore him and would never consider moving him out. I guess sometimes it's nice to give villagers a chance to grow on you before you decide whether or not you wanna move them out.

Buck is the best!!! My sister has him as her starter jock and he is the sweetest.

I don't think there is a villager I hated but now love, but there is a few I didn't like but now love. The most memorable is probably Judy- I found her randomly on a mystery island and picked her up with the intention of giving her away since I wasn't crazy about her design and was holding out for Ankha to be my resident snooty. Her aesthetic was not my vibe at all and I didn't even think she was cute. But she eventually won my heart and became one of my favorite villagers, and I now think she is the cutest ever and can't imagine my island without her!

This is what happened to me 😆

This isn't applicable to any of my current residents, as I purposefully chose all of them to be permanent residents.

I did have Snake and Ursala as my starting Jock and Sisterly villagers and eventually had them leave to make room for my intended residents, but their time on my island did boost my opinion of them some just through exposure. Snake has a decently unique design but he's never been a favorite, while Ursala is a bit too ordinary for my usual tastes, but now that I've had them I appreciate them more. Wouldn't say I "love" either, but I don't regret our time spent together.

Haha Same here! Hazel was one of the very first villagers. I was a bit let down and annoyed the first week or so but she started to grow on me. Uni-wow!

yeah I agree! Mine was actually leonardo and he didn’t grow on me unfortunately, but I’m glad you liked yours! I think the campsite is a good way to force every player to give a random villager a chance!

Aww that’s so cute! I was planning on doing that with Raymond but actually the more I’m hunting for him, the more I want to keep him! :)

Yeah I’ve had quite a few villagers like that too! It’s nice to have other villagers you grow to like whilst looking for your dreamies

There's only one villager on my island I hate. That's Quillson.

I still hate him. He doesn't want to leave. He creeps me out.
Hahahaha I had that with Leonardo and my sister had Marcel too. Some villagers, no matter how much you try, will just never grow on you 😂

Annalisa and Bianca were my starters and at first I didn't really like Annalisa. The only problem was that her and Bianca became really good friends. Watching them interact was really sweet. I gave in and now they're neighbors in my housing area, they go to each others houses a lot.

Coach! I no longer have him, but I kept him for MONTHS. Basically, I was in need of a jock, and was island-hopping for one. I was down to, like, three tickets and I found Coach. I remember groaning and being like "UGH I wanted a cool jock not some ugly dumb bull!" But, since I knew he was a jock, I looked him up online to see if maybe he was worth moving in. I saw her was the only non-lazy/cranky bull, and thought that was cool. And, the more I looked at him, the more I liked his design. So, I moved him in! I ended up keeping him from April to September/October (forget which, lol) I liked him so much, but I eventually moved him out when I felt it was time for a new Jock. I made sure to get his pic first, though 😉 I keep it in my side character's house, he's super competitive and sporty, and I like to imagine Coach was his old coach!

For me it was Beardo and Vic. Eventually I learned to check them out on youtube if I wondered if I liked a villager or not and see how they are animated and react to things and keep an open mind. I think checking out their hobby could be something to look into as well.
Smug and Cranky fit those two well in my opinion. I feel like the villagers are alot different in motion in a game than as a picture. Vic is actually one of my favorite crankies now.
So since I am new to animal crossing and I feel like cycling through all these villagers is kinda... tough if you want at the same time, give them a chance. I decided to take the time and look up each individual villager on youtube and try to find them in motion with sound. (except the mice because I hate the mice except chadder sorry) I complied a list of the ones I think I like from watching youtube and I am going to focus on getting those villagers only when plots open on my island so I don't feel like I am wasting time on a villager I don't like. (like Truffles which I gave a long time on my island to see if she will grow on me. still a nope.)

Most of my villagers and favourites are the ones I didnt like at first. 😂 Beardo, Rory, Hazel, Hans, Rocket, and Tabby ❤

I initially didn’t care about Rudy and had plans to let him leave asap but not only did I end up liking him, but I invited him back via amiibo card right away twice after booting him with an amiibo since I messed up his house twice (and he had the starter house the first time, so the first boot was inevitable). He’s now a permanent resident. :)

Tex isn’t a permanent resident and has been gone for awhile, but I was initially not happy with him since he took up the spot I was saving for Raymond. Once I found out he came from a friend’s void, I gave him a chance and even dressed him up and let him stay longer. Tex is now a smug I highly recommend, which is kinda funny since I initially had zero interest in him.
