I have a bit of an issue. I have too many duplicate personalities on my island and I’ve become attached to all of them. In addition to that, I find the designs for jock and sisterly villagers to be lacking. None of them really get my attention.

Here are my current villagers (6 female, 4 male) and how I feel about them:
• Audie, peppy (keeping)
• Biskit, lazy (might keep)
• Eunice, normal (favorite, keeping)
• Hamlet, jock (want him gone)
• Hornsby, lazy (keeping)
• June, normal (keeping)
• Kabuki, cranky (keeping)
• Marina, normal (want her gone)
• Sprinkle, peppy (keeping)
• Willow, snooty (keeping)

I kind of want to replace Marina with Vesta, but she would keep my normal villager count at three and make my sisterly village count zero. I also want to replace Hamlet with Curlos, which would give me one smug villager but then zero jocks. So my villager list would look like this:
• Audie, peppy
• Biskit, lazy
• Eunice, normal
• Curlos, smug
• Hornsby, lazy
• June, normal
• Kabuki, cranky
• Vesta, normal
• Sprinkle, peppy
• Willow, snooty

I am somewhat flexible with Biskit because I have his Amiibo and I can always bring him back. My questions are: Is there a reason to have all 8 personalities? Should I get rid of Biskit and have a jock/sisterly villager in his place? Even then, though, I’d still be missing one.

Repetitive dialogue is not a problem for me. I’m just going by aesthetic preferences. I’m pretty attached to the other villagers I’m keeping so I really don’t want to get rid of any of them. What should I do?

I believe certain reactions are also taught by certain personalities as well if you care about those
Although, you could just trade for the DIYS you want from a personality type you're missing

In addition to DIYs, certain reactions can only be gotten by being best friends with every personality type so if you want all the reactions, you'd need to commit to having a jock and a sisterly on your island for a few weeks of actively befriending them.

certain diy's. but the most important one is reactions. because you can still get the diy's via message bottles. the chances of getting a certain personality diy just lessens because of the crafting factor.

made the mistake of letting my uchi go before learning the high level friendship reaction :(

you'll miss out of getting some reactions, diys, and unique convos but thats pretty much it

All of the above, but also the greater variety of dialogue.

It's repetitive enough even without each personality type!

other than dialogue variety, diy recipes, and specific emotes, i can't really think of anything else to add why it's beneficial to have all 8 personalities on your island.

that's not actually true

I’m pretty sure it is true actually. I have 5 different playable characters that I play as fairly equally. That being said, I get each reaction 5 different ways (once with each of my characters), so I definitely notice the same set of reactions coming from the same personality types.

Can confirm. I have all the reaction and never got a reaction from cranky. I had a cranky villager for a little while, but ignored him all the time. This was before I was photo hunting and he moved out before I started that.

I think a larger variety does get you reactions faster.

Aside from reactions. There is no reason to have all personalities outside of your own preference. Some players will go on that it give more variety to conversations and that having to many of the same is boring to talk to. Since they share dialog. I don't think this is always true. Here is an example. Tangy and Audie are both peppy villagers. So they have the same lines for the most part. Yet I find both of them completely different. Sure I read the same lines but it almost feels like a different person all together. It's the same with Whitney and Ankha or Raymond and Marshal. When I talk to them it's always feels different and not like I am talking to the same villager each time.

Then again that's me. It could be that there is enough diversity in appearance. Along with the fact that they seldom (almost never) give the same lines at the same time. That they feel unique enough to not be boring. :D

That is why I always say. Go for the villagers you want. It does not matter if you have multiples of the same species, gender, or personalities. You have to see and talk to them more then anyone else. So make them the ones you want to see an talk to everyday. :D

I have all eight so that I can get all the personality-specific DIYs and reactions/emotions. But honestly that's pretty much it, besides the fact that it's nice to have some variety :)

To answer your question, yes, you need to have all eight personalities as they have diy and emotes that are exclusive to each personality. Once you've completed all that, you can revert back to having missing personalities if you prefer it that way.

That‘s pretty comforting. Thanks! I really don’t like the sisterly villagers‘ designs at all and I would love to just not have one on my island. That’s just my opinion, though. Jock villagers aren’t that great to me, either, but I’m considering having one.
