POC stands for "Person of Color" or someone who is not caucasian. Do you think it's appropriate to use? I see it used a lot, but I've read about actual "POC" getting upset about its use.

What do you think?

Also, I have another question: What if someone has a white father but a poc mother? What does that make them?

Well if you're using it in an appropriate way then yes. It really only matters to the person reading what you said and if he/she takes it as offensive.

ofc, the term was created by poc after all. the only time I've seen people be upset by its usage is when it's used as an umbrella term when discussing issues that are specific to a certain group. there probably are people who just don't like it but I've never heard it called inappropriate.

Another thing that people get excessively offended by.

But really, if that is an offensive term, then what else can people use that's not offensive?

I haven't seen any poc getting upset about it, what was their argument against it?

It's very appropriate, what else are you gonna use when you're talking about racial issues that don't apply to white people?

No. It's rude. Their people too, theres no need to give them names.
It wasn't "given to them", POC made the term for themselves.

I've only seen people getting upset over it when it was used as a buzzword to score brownie points from certain groups when a more specific race could be specified just as easily.

"I dislike how it makes massive generalizations and assumptions. It assumes every single nation and culture shares the exact same experiences, when that simply isn't true. Even in just one nation like the United States, it assumes Asians have the same experiences as Indians, as Latinos, or black people. It even gets to the point where people use PoC as a synonym for black people, completely ignoring what other races and cultures experience. You can see how problematic this is when you see someone talking about the issues of academic success or wealth inequality, where East Asians excel even white people."

there are actually a lot of articles, many written by poc, who have the same arguement.

I literally wouldn't care if someone called me this. I've had people tell me I'm a Chinese midget who works on a cotton field and other random crap, and I don't even give a **** lmao

So it's inappropriate when it's used wrong, much like many words are.
I still think it's an appropriate term when used correctly. If someone doesn't want to be referred to as a POC then I just won't do it

I don't like it because it's basically lumping every race and culture that isn't white into one big group but whatever I guess
