When they invite me over and ask if I would buy anything I always try to get the bugs out off their house, but they never let me! They always say something along the lines of "They're so common! You can just go outside and get one by yourself."

If its on a table you can send them something you can put on a table in a mail (tea set, homework set, vintage radio etc.) and that will replace the bugs usually

You can send them objects that are the same size to replace the bugs. So you can't buy them, but you could send her a lamp or such to get it out of there!

You can just send them stuff until they replace it. Just make sure it's stuff that would fit in the same exact area as the bugs. They may sometimes request for you to replace their bugs with something so have something prepared for then too. Also stop giving villagers bugs in general. Declining a request won't hurt your friendship level. It's better to decline anyways than to accept and never do it.

You can't buy them (you also can't buy fish or fossils from their houses) but you can send them other things that are exactly the same size and they'll replace it.

Or if they request a piece of new furniture in their room, you can give them a piece of table furniture that is of the same size as the bug. Just with sending villagers the furniture pieces in mail, they may or may not replace the bug. Sometimes what you can do is to give them the furniture while they are in their house; then you can come out and go back in to see if they have replaced the bug.

I'm fairly sure that accepting and never do it won't hurt your friendship level either, since the game often gives you things that you have a high chance of not getting by the end of the day. Also, if you accept, you hear that noise that you hear when you've made them happy (and then again, I think, if you fulfill their request) so my understanding is that it certainly doesn't hurt your friendship level. I tend to do this all the time and still have villagers who are at a high friendship level with me.
