The 3DS save backup feature doesn't work with Animal Crossing, but is there another way I can manually back up the save data of my digital copy WITHOUT any kinds of hacks involved in any way? Thanks.

Nope! Sorry, but the only way to back it up is by using a Homebrew ( as in a hacked app ) app: jksm to back it up..

Sad but true..

You can transfer save data from physical (cartridge) to a digital copy of AC but the previous save data will be erased.

That's really really lame... oh well. Guess I'll just make do. Thanks for the responses. :( Wish Nintendo was as on top of save data preservation as Sony and Microsoft seem to be.

Does Nintendo even care about saving data in case something happens?

It used to be possible for digital copies before the welcome amiibo update, but Nintendo removed it since people are gonna use it as a way to hack the game. Very sad, it helped save people from corruptions before :(

That's so idiotic, it's not like it's going to stop people that are determined to hack, all it does is prevent normal people from being able to reliably protect their data. But that seems like a typical pattern for the entertainment industry. Mess up the experience for normal people in an attempt to halt hackers/piraters without actually doing a thing to stop them from what they want to do anyway. Oh well.

No but if you do get worried about your digital copy you can transfer it to cartridge Welcome Amiibo version. Just pick import town and everything will move over. I did this with a digital town that I was worried about. Put the Welcome Amiibo cartridge in the system and picked import on the front screen. It's below make a new town. It was done in 2 minutes and I now have a spare town on my digital copy.

Oh wow, really? Something like this really works? This sounds absolutely perfect! I should really try this out. There's no risks involved with this method I assume? Because if not then I'm definitely going to do this.

The import is done on the same 3DS as the digital copy or cartridge copy.

The only thing I lost was the showcase when I used import my town. I've been playing since the release so didn't need to buy anything from those houses. My dream address did change but it could be just from moving the cartridge to a different 3DS.

A streamer on Twitch moved his digital town to a cartridge while streaming. I mentioned how to do it and his town moved in a short period of time. Both of us have been playing the towns for months now and we haven't had any problems.

You can also import your old cartridge ACNL towns to the Welcome Amiibo cartridge. My ACNL cartridge copy from the release date was popping out of the system. Used a push guard to keep it in place but than decided to try importing the old cartridge to the NEW Welcome Amiibo cartridge. It worked. I just followed the instructions and everything moved.

Bought an extra Welcome Amiibo cartridge game just in case I have any more problems with my other towns.

The old digital copy or old cartridge after the transfer will be a new town that you can make. I have an extra 3DS so I can grow weeds in the town and visit it.

Thanks for all the info. Although, I realized later that this means the digital town would be erased, so for now I'll just keep the town digital until I need to transfer it to a cartridge for whatever reason. Still wish there was a way to back up save data normally... get with the times Nintendo. :(
