I've seen a lot of cool designs and I want to use them but is it okay to use other's designs. I know in nl it was encouraged but is it the same in nh?
Seconded this.If the creator of that design has chosen to make it downloadable by easily accessible means (e.g. QR codes), then I don't see why it wouldn't be okay to do so.
Yah, I think that'd be the one thing. I mean, I'd say it's obviously okay, but the exception would be if someone says "Hey, cool fossil pattern!" and you're like "Thank you! I spent hours carefully crafting it all by myself..."I think it’s ok but you have to give credit to designer if asked.
If you're seeing someone's design, that means they've shared it. And if they've shared it, then I can't imagine they're NOT wanting people to use it! That... would be really weirdIf they've shared the code, they're obviously welcoming others to use it. And if they haven't shared the code, then you really can't use it, so it'd be a moot point.
I guess it might be different if, say, you stumbled across a custom design in their Able Sister's shop (I think you can get them from there?), they may be more possessive of those, but in that case it's quite easy to ask them if you can use it.

Though, frankly, some designs are used SO often that most people here would likely recognize them. Like, "the path"
i think thats a fair statement. especially when it comes floor deck designs. the complexity is very minimal and so many varieties its hard to say where it originated from.
I don't really understand the thing about commissioning paths and making them "exclusive" for the person who commissioned them... if the creator really wanted that, they would have posted it without sharing the code. Also does it mean that the commissioner has the rights to it and that they can share it for public use if they want to? It's a tricky subject...I’ve seen people post the codes and then say, “I made this for a commission so please don’t use it if you’re not the person who commissioned it.“ I guess it would be polite to follow that command, but on my own island if I like it I’ll probably grab it.I’ve never actually done it, though.
