Is it okay that I keep changing my island set up because I keep finding ideas that inspire me?

Tbh having adhd is difficult when playing acnh. I can never make up my mind thus I blow bells on building stuff only to have to destroy it. I have a theme I want to go for but..the only problem is I tend to theme after my villagers and not keep a whole theme. Kabuki lives in Japan meanwhile Ruby lives over in pastel space land hh and oh I dread having to do paths..there's no way I could do it with my island..but they make islands look good so I have to do em..

One thing you might want to note is that most “perfect” islands are nigh-impossible to play on normally. Don’t get me wrong-MY island is very odd to navigate-but when you have large amounts of items crammed together it gets really hard to play the game like in previous games.

Echoing what Lanstar said!

But also, imo that sounds like the best way to play? You'll never run out of things to do or new goals to reach.
I guess that's true yeah,, I don't have a specific island set up I want. I just like making small places to decorate and when I get bored I just redo that small area again. The only goal I have is to get a five star island.

I have noticed that especially in youtube videos and playing on "perfect" islands. Yes they're gorgeous or whatever but in terms of playing on them it's like playing in a maze,, I kinda just try to keep most of my island open,,

I have an idea for your path dilemma! (But in regards to if you are able to take custom designs)
Maybe find the right path that you want to use in the meantime but use custom paths only! Then when you want to change the theme color etc you can replace each custom path with a new one but the same corners will be switched.
Trying not to be too confusing (it’s late for me) but in an example sayy you have a north east corner custom design path- you switch that Slot with the new custom design that is also a north east corner. And so on with all the others. The Path is a great example because it’s the same path but there’s so many different designs of it! It’d be easy to switch when you need to. (:

Genius idea. Yes.

of course it’s okay! it’s your island and therefore you can do whatever you want with it. don’t think you have to make it look like islands you see online, though; ‘perfect’ isn’t only defined by heavy terraforming or having furniture on every single inch, perfect is whatever you’re happy with. i know it can be frustrating tearing down and then rebuilding things but there’s no rush; you can take your time and do whatever you’d like. plus, if you’re struggling to stick with just one theme, why not have a combination of themes? that could keep stuff interesting + helps you to not have to pick and choose what design you’d want to go with aha. good luck! c’:

Bes advice I've read yet! I guess that's my problem,, I see these super heavily terraformed islands and I'm like "wow so cool!! Ugh my island looks like crap..oh wow they have furniture everywhere not on my island nope." I guess I get stuck on the idea of trying to make my isnland "perfect" instead of trying to make it..mine. Hehe I'll work on that and I never thought to combine themes,, I figured if nothing was uniformed it would look bad.

I find it difficult balancing aesthetics and playability because some things that look really pretty aren't functional when it comes to actually playing the game. I have a feeling I'm going to end up completely changing everything again once I'm able to terraform. I have the problem of seeing inspiration from other people and then trying to use that but ending up preferring my original set ups and having to give up and change everything back haha

I like islands that have different looks as you move around them, they're fun and interesting.

Changing things around is half the fun of this game. I've never thought of it as set in stone. I think everyone does it, to some extent. If it makes you happy, that's all that matters.

No its ok I have been playing New Horizons since day 1 and a few weeks ago I was like I hate how my island looks. And I have changed it up so much and now I can finally say that I am very happy with how the front part of my island looks I've still got the rest of my island to redesign but I am feeling so much better with how the rest of the redesign is gonna go :)

You paid for the game, it's yours and you are free to do whatever you want with it. Try to focus on what you like and what makes you most comfortable and happy! If it is 15 different themes on the same island, go for it! If you don't want paths, don't make them. No one says you need paths, maybe you find another solution that makes you more content with your island. There is not only one correct formula on how to make a good island. It's a very subjective topic, you play on your island every day, not other people. So look what works for you, not others. :)

Why not? The game has endless possibilities. Nintendo wants to milk out your creative juices. However, just stay wary of the burnout phase. A lot of players experienced it here.

I don’t believe there’s a “perfect” island since everyone has different likes/dislikes. There’s also no rule stating you need to have a central theme (or even a theme in general)! As long as you’re having fun & you like your island, I think you’re doing great!
Looking at those “perfect” islands is a curse & blessing since it gives you ideas but might make you feel like your island sucks ): if it starts to negatively impact you, I’d limit looking at those islands. As niko@kamogawa mentioned, it’s cool to update your island frequently but be careful not to burn yourself out!

I feel that islands should be fluid if you want them to be. We as people change things about ourselves all the time, why shouldn't your island change too? Especially since they continually add new features and items to the game. I look at my island as being something that will change, even if it goes away from my original aesthetic. I tried to choose villagers adhering to that specific aesthetic but in the end I wound up with a bunch of cool ones that didn't really fit. And that's ok! As long as you're having fun that's all that matters, right? :)

It's absolutely okay to change your island's looks and features! Your island doesn't need to be "perfect" for anyone BUT YOU. We change our clothes as much as we want in real life & in the game. We change our accessories - jewelry, makeup, hair color, hair style - whenever we want in real life and in the game. Our islands are no different. You can change something on your island every day if that makes you happy. All that matters is that you're having fun!
