is it easier to share your true personality online?

im still a bit awkward online but its worse irl. i have more in common with people i speak to online than irl and it sucks

I prefer talking to people by texting 100x more than in person. It seems easier to express things for me, and if I don't want to comment on something, it's a lot easier to get around lol. It gets less awkward.

Usually, but not always.

The only time when I do find it harder to act like "my true self" is when I'm in "stealth male mode" - where I present myself as a guy online, but keep the fact that I'm a trans guy secret.

When I'm in that "mode", I tend to try and put on a fake veil of masculinity.. I guess because I'm afraid that if I showed how feminine I actually speak/act, people would be able to "connect the dots" and figure it out for themselves. (it's stupid, I know, but I can't help it. I'm paranoid. lol)

So obviously when I'm 100% "out", I'm free to act myself - the only downside is the fear of being treated badly for being trans. Which fortunately has only happened to me once here.

However there's also the issue that I feel it's harder to actually feel a connection with the people I meet online.. so even though I can be totally open, it's tough to make friends. (maybe it's just me, though.)

I think so. Its Easier ford me to form my words, no awkward body language , and more ways to keep a conversation going online IMO. I've felt more comfortable online expressing myself rather than in person.

yes, because people are able to hide behind a computer screen. they tend to say things they would probably never say in real life, although it might not always be the case. i'm the kind of person that is basically the same both online or offline. people who i've met online that i met irl have said the same. in fact, i might even be a little more open online now that i think of it.

the only thing about sharing your personality online is that on the other end as you're getting to know a person you start noticing how they're type when they're happy, when they're down, etc. and sometimes it can be difficult to decipher it out, unless they tell you directly. so in that case it's easier to share your true personality in real life, where the person can see your expressions and tone of voice, body language and other things.

Yes and no kind of??

I mean online I'm a lot more dorky and I'm not afraid of judgement so I tend to be more free with my opinions and my personality. I have online friends who I've met in person who I feel I can be myself around.

On the other hand irl I'm super impatient and I don't really have much of a filter which often comes off as me being snarky and rude. It's also really hard for me to get comfortable in new situations/with new people and people often read into that and feel the need to point it out which makes it worse kind of. I also kind of have a mean resting face and I'm super quiet so I can come off angry when I'm really not.

(I said kind of a lot in that post oops)

I talk a lot more about my obsessions online, but that's just because I have nowhere else to do it. I have a hard time opening myself up in general, so I'm more or less the same. I can't make conversation anywhere, so I don't really show my personality. :P

Depends on the people I talk with. I have friends who just can't have a good conversation by texting even though they're really friendly people. I like writing huge paragraphs, but some people like short sentences better. So yeah. Doesn't always work too well together.
But I feel more comfortable texting a friend about inappropriate stuff I'd never say in person. *cough*

Anyway. Overall I prefer online.
Since it gives me time to actually think about that I want to say and... Have time to express myself? Idk lol.

I'm a really reserved person so either way, I keep a lot to myself. I barely have any friends in real life because I'm so shy :b

No. I have social anxiety, though, and I was so socially inept when I first started using the internet that I just didn't make any friends online. I was always getting yelled at by someone or other for saying something that I didn't realize was rude or mean to say or for just telling too much about myself than was socially acceptable. I've gotten a lot better and I understand more of what is and isn't socially acceptable, but I still worry constantly about saying something that could offend someone or make someone hate me. So I usually keep my thoughts to myself, for the most part unless I feel like I can really trust the people on the site.

Yes. It's more easy cause you know that the person at your are telling it will never meet you, so s/he can't use that as a weapon to make you have a bad times. My bests friends are here in Internet, Anna is one, we always talk about our problems and everything, cause it's easier to say it to your mum, dad, friend, cause you don't know how they're going to act.

I'm just going to be honest, it's easier online since you're hidden behind a computer screen. But just because it's easier to talk online, doesn't mean it's suddenly easier to say everything about myself or rant to someone about some of my most deepest, darkest secrets. There are some very personal things I haven't told ANYONE. There are just somethings that a person can' share due to some safety reasons/self-concsious reasons.

I open up faster online. Because people on the internet don't know I'm only ten but still kinda sorta OCD. Oops...

While it's easy to share your true personality online with people you don't see face to face, I'd also like to point out that it is also extremely easy to hide your flaws while online. We're all honest about the parts of ourselves we're proud of, but it's easy to lie by omission when it comes to the less than stellar parts of ourselves.
