Is anyone aiming for a specific "Island theme"?

Heya gang.

So when I was busy screaming over the preview videos I couldn't help but picture myself making a very Japanesey style layout using the various Japanese cultured items. So far I've managed a.. small fenced off garden and with Isabelle claiming the islanders want more (they always do, ungrateful lot), I'm wondering just how big I'll have to make it.

But I digress, anyone else aiming to make their Island a specific theme? I'd love to be able to make mine in line with my flag/name (Which was taken straight out of Skyrim because I was playing it at the time of making my island, lol).

[[ Thanks for the Answers to the question moonrose/honeypuff! ]]

I haven't thought of a proper theme so far, other than a colour scheme with my flowers. I definitely should though!

And yeah, you can customize the type of roof and exterior etc. Once you've upgraded your house enough tom nook unlocks a new option each time

Yes it’s once you pay your last loan. Other loans only let you unlock one customization, such as mailbox and roof color. Exterior and roof options are for the last loan

Ahhh okay, I just got to the 768,000 bell upgrade (TBH I was trying to save money for island upgrades.. Then got lazy).
NGL the new park they want out of me is something I've sort of got the land allocated for (As there's a big section of my island unused 'cept as a spot for cherry trees) but it's a case of moving it all up there and getting the items (I'm looking around for the Cherry Blossom set and any Japanese items, but have only a few) to actually fill the space.

I'm just kind of doing it as I go, lol. I'm not very creative, so I just live vicariously through other amazingly designed islands.

I'm looking at doing a sort of mediterranean coastal town as my "theme," still working out the kinks.

I’m doing a horror/spooky 1880s-1900s Lovecraft-inspired island theme! I’m really excited to see what furniture and such we get for Halloween.

Too bad there are not perfect fruits anymore - so no dead trees. They would look really cool in a horror themed island.

yes but I don't know how well I will execute this. I already tackled my flag and I don't know how much I like it, but I put too much effort into that thing.

The story I got was my island is advertised as a holiday getaway with blue skies and blah blah, but when you arrive at the dock, grimy pirates took over and will rob you.

Yeah, I know! It makes me very sad! I hope one day they’ll find a new way to bring back dead trees.

In finding it difficult to get a theme going, a lot of the items are kinda modern or fit a certain style like Japanese.

I do have some little areas I quite like though, I've got a little market by the beach and a lot of my island is now turning into mountains with the terraforming tool so maybe of I find some items that fit I'll try make different biomes, I was thinking about making a swampy part using the water tool and putting trees coming out on tiny islands but I don't think it'll look how I want it to

I'm looking forward to seeing what Nintendo adds to the game and maybe then I'll feel a bit more inspired, at the moment though I'm just adding features with no particular theme in mind

Oh, so like most "Holiday destinations"

This here might be the most realistic theme for this game.

Well, tonight one my villagers was crafting the western tombstone. So my island is already cursed to be awful.

Got another question; Does anyone know yet if Nook's Cranny ever upgrades?

I'm trying to go for a historic-market town vibe, like York in England! It sucks, because if the brick bridges and inclines were grey brick instead of red brick, they would be perfect 😣 I've already made a bunch of custom patterns for the pavings

I'm aiming my town to be aerodynamic; lots of wind turbines (if it even exists) or anything related to that stuff just like my island slogan

Yup, get the resident services and you'll find them for nook miles.

Also how did you make your signature? [edit:] NVM, I actually used my brain and clicked your link.

Yes, if/once I figure out if it's doable. I'll need to do some research first.

My ACNL town didn't have a theme so this is unchartered territory for me. :P

After seeing so many intricate islands - like the one that was made to resemble Shibuya or another that had was heavily inspired in "Japan circa 1850", I've come to the conclusion that I honestly don't want to make something like that in my island.

What I'm thinking about is to really make a more traditional animal crossing village, but using the landscaping tools and external furniture to make the areas around the animals' houses match their personality/nature.

For example, Camofrog's house is in the "2nd floor" of the island, with a pond right next to it and a couple pines, so I feels like a refuge for a cranky creature that doesn't want to be disturbed. Antonio's house will be relocated to a place near the beach, where I plan on building some kind of open air gym and soccer/football field.

I have to plan a lot because I need to separate 10 different areas, one per villager, without disrupting the flow of nature. The idea is to have a true "Dobutsu no Mori" in the island, not a bustling city or anything like that.
