Is a short letter bad?

I'm sending shirts to my villagers in hope to get them to change their clothes, but I don't want to write loads.
They do react to the fact a letter is short, but will it make them like me less?

I don't worry about the length of the letter normally, I sometimes just put hello, or something funny and send it off, don't feel you have to fill up the entire letter each time, obviously a longer letter will get a better reply from the villager as it does slightly help your friendship level with them. but thats its
