I completely changed almost everything in her house, I only did this because she have a starter house which looks really boring so I gave her furnitures so that it'll look better lol, also my journal is quite long cuz in the process, I decided to change the color way of the ironwood sets from walnut to oak lol...

So basically you can replace their furnitures as long as it is of the same size like for example you want to replace her bed, then you should find a bed similar to the size of the bed she currently have...

Anything tabletop related could be placed randomly on their house, they move this things, I highly don't recommend giving them this cuz they will literally place it how they want to place it so sometimes it'll look weird and messy. I gifted Lolly a lot of tabletop furnitures and in the pic not all are there, they'll hide it in their inventory sometimes and put it out if they want to and arrange it however they like (like for example in my case, I gifted her a recolor of the classic pitcher she already have thinking she'll just replace her old classic pitcher, but instead she ended up displaying both as you can see in my pic which is pretty annoying)...

There are certain furnitures they won't replace like ever, in my case it's Lolly's mirror, I gifted her several times a recolor of the same mirror (as you'll see in my journal lol) but she didn't replace it at all...

I'm pretty sure there's a guide somewhere about replacing villagers' furnitures if I remember correctly, I just am too lazy to find it myself atm lol so I'm just gonna speak from my own experience...

The cake looks so good in merengues house! Now i need to replace the microwave

I kept thinking about doing a thread like this but I doubted anyone else was doing this! I haven't been trying to get mine picture-perfect lately, but here are my starters' houses:
Clay's - I didn't change much overall, but the few things I did, like swap the log table and stool out for stone ones, make it feel more fitting to Clay imo. Clay's fortunate that the starter house doesn't feel out of place for him. I have plans to swap out the shelf and wardrobe at some point if that's doable (haven't checked lol), just lack a good replacement furniture item so far. Wanted to give him a few fossils, but I haven't come across many fitting ones. Also might give him a campfire or camping set thingy - that stove has got to go lol

Sprinkle's - This was before I gave her a pink laptop (which stays permanently on her loft desk, there's a sea globe there in the pic). Yes I know what her original house looks like, but I'm fine with this version - I put lots of shell/mermaid furniture outside her beachside house to make up for it. Keeping that soft-serve lamp there is annoying because that's where she keeps putting clothes I give her. You can't replace the stereo, loft bed or DIY bench.

Billy's - I wanted to give him some Japanese style furniture. I gave him a kotatsu, but apparently that's a winter item so he might not display it for a while. He's since replaced that tatami bed with a diner sign unfortunately, but I've yet to correct that. He also now has a grasshopper which fits him well. I have yet to find an alternative to his wardrobe, but honestly it looks quite good considering he probably won't replace his bed. Oh I also need to get him a black imperial chest lol. There was also a pile of zen cushions where that football is, but I doubt I'll be able to keep them there

Finally Ursala's - sorry this is a crappy photo, but I haven't bothered with her house in a long time since she won't replace her sleeping bag and Idk whether to accept that and give her an ironwood cupboard, or keep that second bed where it is. I may change her natural garden stuff to the darker color, I just wasn't sure at first if it would look good on her wall/flooring

Billy in a starter house is awesome!! Looking good!!

This is the best I've got for the starter homes. I think it suits Tybalt's personality :3

My sister has been trying to give her starter jock (Buck) a bed to replace his sleeping bag for so long! She hasn't had any luck, do you have any tips?

no, sorry :c I actually thought the bed was originally there.. I've just gifted him a few items
good luck to her though!

for a starter home this is really good. I wish the villager would change the wallpaper and floors.

thanks! I also wish we could do that.. hopefully in future updates because Tybalt can never leave <3
I haven't had much luck on any of my other starter houses

I let Rosie move away so I only have 4 villagers in their starter home now.

I gifted Flo a lot of table top items, including tv, espresso maker, cute radio etc. Her house originally is wooden block theme. I tried to change the wooden chair into ironwood stool but not able to replace it. Occasionally she will put something on top of the refrigerator. The left side of her room is always empty and she won't put display furnitures there...it is just her singing space because she always sings there.

Dom's house is originally wooden theme and bare. I think he only have the wooden chest, simple diy workbench, wooden bed, wooden table and chair. I try to make his house more colourful as one of his favourite colour is rainbow. I also get him a radio so I know what is his favourite song. I also gift him a lot of exercise equipments but he replaced them easily with bugs or clothes...I guess it is my time to gift him those equipments again. I also aim to let him put all 4 types of protein shakers on the table too.

Punchy's house is originally log themed. So I try to gift him lots of blue furniture, especially since I saw his original house. Currently it is just that log bench which is difficult to replace, I tried gifting him blue double sofa and blue iron bench...I am wondering what kind of furniture can replace that log bench......

Flurry house's is originally wooden theme...then I change them to white, including the system kitchen. I realised you could gift them the same type of furniture but with different colour and they will replace them in the same space. She bought the pink diner table from me, I thought it kinda suit her house, then mermaid series came by and I think the colour suit her so I have been replacing her white furniture...but just like op...that wooden mirror...I still cannot find things to replaced it. I mean, I try to gift her white version of it but it doesn't work too.

So heres bobs house and merengues house..

I love bob in the starter house..so far ive only given him the blue fish cat nip andi just gave him the veggie frying pan which is ao perfect for his stove i love it.. now im contemplating giving him the purple cat moms cake.. then we have merengue who i gave the 3 different wedding cakes i absolutely love her house especially with the pink mixer.. so she makes wedding cakes.. fun cooking at bobs house and baking at merengues

Has anyone successfully replaced the starting jock’s sleeping bag with a bed? If so how long did it take? I tried once and figured it wasn’t possible. Which 2x1 bed & color would you suggest to go with the natural antique furniture? Not really thrilled with how long that took but it would be worth not seeing that unsightly sleeping bag.

I no longer have my starting jock, but I did replace Flora's sleeping bag with a pear bed. Probably not the best choice for antique furniture, though. :) Have you tried a wooden bed or wooden block bed? If you customize it, they will display the customized version.

That’s good to know about the customized furniture, thank you. I haven’t tried since I started giving him antique furniture but I’ll take a look at those beds. I think he has 3: 2x1 spaces. Should I mail him that many at once?

I've been trying this with one of my villagers, it's been a long journey and we're nowhere near done yet. He so far just straight up refuses to replace the futon bed he has... Once that's gone things should start moving a little faster, I think.

The whole system of gifting and how a villager decided what to put where has been made a little too complicated, I think, there's no way the average player would ever find out all the small nuances you need to know to fully redecorate one of the rooms. Personally I like the challenge, but still. Imagine being able to get you villager something and then telling them "put it over there!"

honestly i'd love this option if we're able to pick and place where we want the furniture we gift them to go.
i have no faith in my villagers after seeing how derpy they are with placement.
would be a nice nod to hhd as well if this option is a thing.

I would only send one bed in case they decide to display more than one. From my experience, if they are going to display a piece of furniture, they'll display it the next day (or maybe after 2 days if by mail.) Sending more doesn't seem to influence that. But if you do send multiple items, they may try to display them all or replace other items.

It's all a bit tricky.

I've mostly worked on Flora's and Boots' homes because I really didn't like their original houses and didn't fear messing them up. They're not the homes I would have designed, but I do like them slightly more even if the changes are subtle. Flora's looked better before I got obsessed with trying to get rid of the campfire (any tool item will do it, and I later ended up with a surfboard.)

The before pics are from the wiki.
