Oh man I didn't think you'd actually disagree with me there. XD

Well I'll let that one go. Still think electric is easier to play on but I didn't know there were different types of strings. My guitar teacher never told me there were, and we tried to make my acoustic easier for me to play for weeks...but then by that time my fingers were pretty calloused so I didn't need to. I think my strings were also higher up than usual, also.
Ohh, yeah, that would definitely make playing more difficult. Jazz and electric guitars have really low tension, so the strings are really low on the fretboard, so it's not as hard to bar chords/play scales/whatever. Sometimes it's desirable to have relatively high tension, though, to get that "classical guitar tone".

Yeah. I just went to compare my first acoustic to my other acoustics, and the other ones definitely aren't as hard compared to it...in fact the other acoustics feel like electrics compared to my first acoustic. Guess I just had bad luck there and I held a grudge against acoustic guitars for it, lol. But I do prefer acoustic to electric as far as the sound goes...actually I don't really like electric at all.

Yeah, maybe it's because I'm just not much of a rock fan, but I don't like electric guitars either. Well, if you don't count "jazz guitar" as electric, 'cause I love those. :P

Yeah, then our disagreement is just founded on how we are defining learning. I'm not saying if you learn a few chords you've "learned" guitar. My point was that guitar is easier to get into at first, easier to get started with. And yeah, eventually she will have to learn how to read music if she wants to go pro, but I was operating under the assumption that the kid isn't going to become a professional musician. Sounds like she just wants a hobby. Her first post made it sound like she has a problem reading music, which is why I brought up the tabs thing.

You sound like you're really into playing and I've only been playing a couple years, so I'm sorry if you have some kind of problem with me as a n00b at music or something, I was just trying to give her advice.
Ok, after reading the past three pages I can say this.
I don't want to go pro, I just want some kind of hobby.
From what I hear the guitar sounds hard, I'd just like to learn to play like rock on an electric guitar or somthing for fun. (not sure what acoustic is....xD) :P
I've always liked the piano, but when I quit, the keyboard had to go too. =[
The guitar seems like it needs a lot of dedication and time and practice, the piano came naturally for me, so I'll see what happens. :P
I know each instrument needs time and practice and dedication but I mean that I'm probably better off with the piano....

I play the guitar, and i really like it.
It's pretty easy once you learn some chords.
I have an electric and accustic guitars.
Tab's are almost all that i play, if you don't
know what tabs are...There like an easy-er
versian of music(like how to read music).
They just show which fret and what string
to put your fingers on.
I hope that helps
