I was literally just talking about how mental my schools rules are but I swear down it cannot be just my school right?

EDIT: I'm in year 13 now (Senior Year) and I hear from the kids below me the school is still god awful years later. I think it's unfair what a lot of schools penalise their students for.

Idk if this is a weird school rule or me just being whiney, but my school doesn't really let you get ahead in any classes. Like, in 7th grade, we weren't allowed to choose our math class (they put me in the on level one TnT and I've been stuck in "on level" math courses since. Anyway, we aren't allowed to take any class over the summer (unless it's like P.E or health or you failed a class). Along with that, we have 8 periods next year, and we are only allowed to take 7 classes with an off period. Like, you are NOT allowed to have a class during said off period >.> Idk why they care so much, but anyway ;-;

Also, idk if this is the same for all schools, but my school makes you pay a fee to park your car there e.e That just seems unfair to me, but yeah

Mostly up to high school, but yeah I never get why people would be mad at you for wearing a hat/cap? Like bruh unless you wear a 10 feet tall fancy dress top hat(or anything else dumb) I don't really see the issue?

It's easier to just ban all hats rather than do research/keep up on what's gang affiliated. We couldn't wear hats or jersey shirts because some are associated with gangs.

Most of my school's rules were dress code related, skirts/shorts had to be a certain length, no tank tops, no baggy pants, stuff like that. One thing I thought was really stupid though was you needed a note to go to the library. I needed to work on a research paper so I went to the library during my lunch period and I got sent away because I didn't have a note. I told them I'm on lunch so I can't get a note and they were like nah can't come in.
We also could only eat/be in designated areas during lunch. I get that they want to keep an eye on kids, but for the kids who didn't really have friends/nowhere to sit, it sucked. You just kind of had to stand there looking at everyone haha.

Okay, well I don't think we had gang problems here at the time, they just enforced it for some random collective reason lol. I mean it could be caps, beanies like anything hat-hat. So dumb.. focus on real issues?

When it's summer and we're allowed to take our jumpers off (we have to wear blazer jumper and shirt) you have to have 5 stripes on your tie to have your jumper off ;-;

Just like probably a lot of other schools, my school won't allow you to wear tank tops, and shirts must be appropriate, meaning no inappropriate messages or pictures on shirts or anything like that (which is understandable). We can't color our hair unless it's a natural hair color (which doesn't stop anyone anyways, plus my principal doesn't care for that rule anymore I'm guessing, since lots of kids at my school have colored hair that's not a natural hair color). Another stupid rule we have is , well that doesn't make sense to me is, we're allowed to have our phones out if we want, as long as we're paying attention, but some teachers still don't allow us to have it out. (reasonable once again i guess) (I just went on a rant that led to nowhere XD)

my school has banned card games because apparently some people were playing poker and placing bets and they had to stop it which is understandable

it’s not enforced by anyone other than the two dudes who work in the cafe who think they own the school and that theyre everyones friend but rly theyre 40 year old men who dress like teenagers, are creepy towards students, are friends with the most annoying people and are racist dickheads with no lives. lol. anyway so you cant play any card game in the cafe area because theyll go up and yell at you but anywhere else is fine because literally no one cares and the rest of the employees at the school arent mean and need to use their power against others to feel superior

also my primary school banned football cards (they were a huge trend back then) because there were fights about them and one kid tried to strangle another kid. it wasnt an insans rule as much as it was a weird issue they had to solve but ?\_(ツ)_/?

1. If you were absent for a day in school, you have to bring in a note signed by a parent to explain your absence. Literally no one does that in my school and the teachers don't mind at all if you didn't bring one. Here's the worst part, after school on your day of absence, an automated voice message will be sent to your home stating the classes you were absent for. After that, they'll tell you the reminder of what I said above.

2. Many people said this already but dress codes are still a thing and boy, no one seems to comply with it. In fact, there were talks of getting rid of the dress code at my school.

3. In modern society, there are plans that teachers should have the authority to take away people's phones. I find it understandable in a way because there are those people who can't stay way from their phones at ALL. However, I disagree with it as well. One, phones can be useful if used wisely, especially when used for educational purposes. Two, some teachers find that idea to be dumb and crazy. Three, school boards tend to overeact when there is a problem. I heard various schools banned baseball cards and such because of 'blackmarketing', when there really is no solid evidence to prove that point. News stations REALLY like to do this.

I guess this goes on to show that schools have a lot to learn from society when they're the ones who are helping us to prepare for it.

*Can't carry deodorant

Deodorant I understand as some people have asthma. Easier to just outright get rid of it than have somebody keel over with an asthma attack when somebody is spraying it around because they're inconsiderate douche nozzles. Deodorant is also banned in my workplace for that exact reason, at least 3 people I know of there having asthma.

And whilst it's very unlikely to actually happen, they're also easy to use as something dangerous, either through pressure, an idiot with a lighter or the stupid "deodorant challenge" from not long back. You can also get high from it.

As I say, it's not likely to be an issue...But in a world where schools are getting targeted for absolutely anything and everything by idiot parents and sensationalist media, it's easier to just ban stuff where potential lays and bubblewrap the kids rather than face the possibility of losing jobs.

Just get a roll on deodorant. I would be very surprised if your school bans roll on deodorant as that's generally an acceptable alternative basically everywhere else that bans sprays.

*3 Uniform Violations = suspension. But UN-TUCKED SCHOOL SHIRTS count as ''violations''

Well...Yea, my school had that exact same "3 strike" rule. Not following the rules is a violation of the rules, that's how rules generally work.

Remember, school is supposed to be preparing you for adult life (up for debate how well it does that, but different topic) and what do a lot of work places have? A dress code. It's a simple rule that doesn't hurt anybody, but it's a rule, and if you can't do something as simple as tucking in your shirt then you obviously can't follow rules. Back to the 'work' thing, you'll get a lot worse than a suspension for continually not following the dress code because, as you've probably been told in school, "you're representing the company and we don't want to give the impression that we employ dirty scruffy tramps who don't give a ****" (not my words).

Just tuck your shirt in.

Not being able to wear short sleeve shirts and skirts/pants being gender specific I have and never will understand the logic behind and ARE stupid rules. I can write an essay on why those rules are ridiculous, but the first two have more than understandable logic behind them.

I think the most bizarre rule any school I went to had was designated seating on the bus. Everyone had to sit in the same place next to the same person every day to and from school. Personally I thought that was really strange.

Our school doesn't allow us to have pets. I tried calling the cops but they just hung up on me.

My old high school was probably quite like many others aside from the fact that you couldn't really have any piercings (nose piercings, lip, etc.) that weren't earlobes & they would confiscate your phone if you had it out at all. I get not wanting phones out in classrooms, but they would take them away at lunch & in the hallways if we had them out. It didn't make much sense to me. That and the fact that you literally could never go to the library because we had classes all day that you couldn't just leave & if you had study hall they wanted you to sit in the room you were assigned to. And you had to be in the cafeteria during your lunch block, you couldn't sit outside or leave the school grounds or go to the library or anything.

My school was pretty mellow and didn't have that many crazy rules, though it was 5 years ago I was there so I could be forgetting some stuff, but two things that stick out are:
1) If you were late, you had detention for the amount of minutes you were late. If you were late by 1 minute, you legit had a 1 minute detention
2) We would have random pen/pencil/eraser/scissor/ruler/glue checks and if you failed it three times you got a detention

Hmm... I don?t remember my high school having super harsh ?rules?. Maybe just dumb dress codes that no one followed. Not exactly a rule, but I do remember their grading system was just bonkers. There was even a meme circulating with a snapshot of my school?s grading system and how ridiculous it was compared to like standard US schools or something... the meme called it a ?crazy Korean grading system? but that?s not entirely true because my school was an international school following a US curriculum. I remember feeling real **** about being a borderline C student but then that same grade being like an A in the US lmao.

The schools I've gone to have all been pretty chill when it comes to strange rules since we didn't have dress codes or anything like that. Though Pokemon cards were banned in primary school because some kids were trading them for money. It's pretty much understandable but it felt like such injustice back then.

i dunno if other schools are like this, but you cannot stay inside a classroom during break if there isn't a teacher supervising. like, they force you to go outside in burning hot weather and freezing cold temperatures, while people like me are much better off staying indoors and doing schoolwork. all i did during recess was stand in a corner or against the wall looking like a fool because i don't have anyone to play with and i'm forced to be outside. my mom told me that in her school as a kid, she could stay inside during break if she wanted to, and she always did. homework finished during school. i wish it was like that here for elementary. but i'm going to highschool now, so i can just go to the library during lunch if i finish eating early and do some work.

My elementary school was like this too. They would legit make us go outside in like -20C weather it was awful.

My high school was pretty annoying about dress code. The building was old and the boilers were often not working/not turned on so it would be absolutely freezing inside the school (like, teachers were wearing winter jackets inside freezing), but if they saw you wearing a sweater over your uniform you'd get sent to the office.

In primary school, it was compulsory for us to have two sets of shoes. One pair for indoors and another for wearing outside. It was to prevent from ruining the school's carpets, which quite frankly, were already wearing away despite having followed the rules. This school was very stern in wider aspects. For instance, single file in corridors to the left side, legs and arms crossed during assemblies and we even had to write a certain way.

On the other hand, high school was very much the opposite. While it was stated that skirts mustn't be shorter than knee length, this rule seemed to commonly be disregarded. No fashionable or slim/skinny trousers; I must admit, I was one of them. I happen to fall into this category of bypassing, but there was a reason for it. No one cared. Makeup was another staple to the rules that a lot of us girls disliked, as a teenager I felt more comfortable wearing eye makeup. Every morning I would coat my eyelashes and that would be just about it. I've seen a lot worse, at times there were girls who got caught in the act and were forced to remove with wet wipes. A teacher even brought wet wipes into an assembly at one time, dismissed all the boys at the end of it and assessed each and everyone of our faces. That's as far as they went, at least with our year group. We got away with absolute murder. With that said, one thing they were adamant about were top buttons to be done up at all times and ties to be of a good standard.

My high school had these terrible rules (and pardon me, I can’t remember most of them as this was like 5 years ago):
• As Unicorn stated, we weren’t allowed to be in a classroom or library during interval time. Mind you, we were in high school. What do you think we’d do without teacher supervision? Graffiti the whiteboard? Steal a pencil?
• If we were caught having a phone in our pockets, we’d get a strike. Two strikes and that’s a detention after school.
• Our school uniform policy was very strict. We had to have the exact correct material of white shirts. If we did not have the correct material of the buttoned white shirts, then we’d be breaching the school uniform policy and would be in trouble.
• I remember one of my friends being caught messaging her mum at school. Apparently her mum was injured or something, but she got caught by a teacher, then had detention for 1) having her phone out and 2) texting somebody.
• If we ate snacks in class, we’d be in trouble with the principal, rip. This didn’t apply for every teacher though. For example, our health teacher allowed us to eat fruit or vegetables in class, which was good.
• Class parties were forbidden. I don’t know why, but this means that end of year/Christmas/any other festive party was banned.
• Chewing gum in school was a huge ban. Even if we were caught with chewing gum in our pockets while we are not actually chewing it, that would count as a strike. 3 strikes and it’s a suspension.
• Silly string and party poppers were strictly prohibited on our school grounds. This is because of the string that comes out of it. Apparently somebody brought it to school once and the string almost flooded the school lol. That’s what sparked the ban.
• We weren’t allowed to talk to our teachers outside of school. I mean, if we emailed our teacher about homework or something, then we would be called out for ‘invading teacher’s privacy’. I got caught out for it once. I mean, it’s just email about homework. We’re not casually chatting with each other through SnapChat or something. The rule was 3 times = suspension.
There was much more, but I forgot because this was long ago and I feel so old haha.
