So, yeah... Landscaping? I'm a master at it. Decorating the inside of my house? My brain melts into mush.

I need help... at least for the main floor and upper floor, since those two rooms are going to share the same decorating style. Besides the wallpaper and flooring, I've got no clue where to start...

By the way, these are the wallpaper and flooring I decided to go with for the main room and upper floor:

It would really help if you preview your ideas at Harvey's island. Your whole catalog will be at your disposal, then you can decide what items to use before actually decorating your house. Have a theme in mind and try to use as many items you think would fit in with that theme. Having key items helps in getting the ball moving. Once you're happy with the placement on those, you can fill in the rest of the space with neutral and/or smaller items.

Haha I struggle with similar problems. I want my house to have, like, a cottagecore theme, but kinda stuck. I also have a character who is supposed to have a tropical hotel themed room but...

i'm also total garbage at decorating (interior and exterior though) so my rooms are average at best. my kitchen and bathroom were definitely inspired by other people's designs and my main room is just a cluster disaster. best advice i can give is to pick a theme, even if it's just a color and/or other colors that complement it, include the basic elements if you're doing a specific room (i.e. a lounge will want a sofa, a bathroom a bath, a kitchen a table and cooker etc.), and give the walls some love since there's some lovely wall deco in this game.

@Khaelis I’m the complete opposite actually! I love interior decorating

I’d actually totally be willing to dm with you and help you design rooms you like? Maybe you can give me some landscaping tips?

I'll take a look, and you're more than welcome to DM me for landscaping help.

In a sense, house decorating and landscaping are fairly similar in concept... its just all the variables with furniture kinda overwhelm me compared to just cliffs, rivers and trees. XD

  • Is there a particular theme you're envisioning? Underwater, forest, elegant/classy, rustic, etc.
  • Is there a specific colour scheme you like?
  • Are there specific pieces of furniture you want to use?
  • What kind of functionality do you want the room to have? Living room, gaming, kitchen, dining, etc. You can kill two birds with one stone by pairing functionality with a theme/set of furniture or craftable items. For example, for my bathroom, I used the mermaid set.
I like @NefariousKing's suggestion of trying stuff out at Harv's Island. Just bear in mind the dimensions are different for the side rooms. Personally, though, I just go into decorating my house blind without much planning of specifics, try stuff out, and adjust as I go.

I’ll DM you tomorrow with some tips! I actually feel the opposite, as cliffs, rivers, trees, furniture and all that feel like way too many options compared to a set size room. But yeah I have some general tips I learned to make designing easier, I can send those now but it’s 2 AM and I need to sleep afterwards 😂

Mmm... a mix of rural and rustic, I suppose? My choice in wallpaper and flooring kinda hints at this, I guess. XD

Is there a specific colour scheme you like?

I'm a fan of darker colours. Colours like grey, brown and black. Though, I'm also a fan of green and purple.

Are there specific pieces of furniture you want to use?

I wouldn't mind encorpating the rattan furniture, and when they're out, the Turkey Day furniture since I think they match the wallpaper and flooring well enough.

I suppose... Living room, I guess? At least for the main room. The upper floor will likely be more bedroom like.

@Khaelis, nice! Those are the questions I generally ask myself whenever I get bored of a room in my house and decide to redecorate. xD More holistically, I find it helpful to decide whether or not I want a consistent theme/colour scheme/vibe throughout the whole house or to go room by room, too. I hope this helps you somewhat. :)

The combination of the wall paper and the floor gives me 70s vibes, so maybe go with furniture with earthy tones?

I always just start by dropping in some furniture that I like, and playing with those pieces. A couch, a table, piece of art...whatever. If it works, then I start adding other things that go with it.

With the larger rooms, I always break them up into sections. My upstairs bedroom has one side that has a bed, mirror, closet, etc, and the other side is like a sitting/reading room.

I'm completely the opposite!! I found my house pretty easy to decorate but I've been struggling a lot more with creating outdoor spaces that don't feel crowded but also aren't too empty  my best advice would probably be to make sure you make it three-dimensional and don't just have things along the walls, try to have at least a couple items coming into the middle of the room (tables, couches, etc) and for bigger rooms try to split them into smaller areas within the room (my main room downstairs is a mini kitchen, dining table, and small living area with a few couches and my big room upstairs is my bedroom on one side with a sitting/music area on the other side). start with a few big pieces and then fill in the spaces around those with decorations (lamps, end tables, plants)
