Hello all. Despite the fact that I thought I knew what caused this glorious flora to spawn in a town, my preconceived notions were shattered when one appeared today in my cycling town. Now, Ferelden certainly isn't gorgeous by any means, but I do have the Beautiful Town ordinance in effect, and all my weeds were removed one day prior to the appearance of this meat flower. I don't have an abundance of trash lying around and there appears to be plenty of trees, so I'm at a bit of a loss here. I've also time traveled a fair amount since the spawning, and it shows no signs of wilting. Have any other cyclers had this happen, despite having BT active? I'm not overly concerned about it; it's more of a curiosity. Any input would be greatly appreciated. :D

Lol hi again! Well...I had pretty much the same problem, the beautiful town ordinance was in effect, and didn't have any weeds, so i was kinda flumped when the big nasty planted itself.

long story short, you can just place a pwp on it to squash it out.

Hey there. :D

I do know about the PWP trick, but I'm still terribly curious as to why it spawned in the first place. I haven't been able to find any relevant information anywhere, and being the type of person who loves to know how things work I'm determined not to give up until I know every contributing variable. It's good to know that I'm not the only one to experience this, though!

I hope you're enjoying Mint. :)

I didn't know about the PWP trick to get rid of it, and I've never had one. I've only seen pics and heard of them. Do they harm anything? If not, I wonder if it is a sort of "achievement" to get one?

But I thought for sure the BTO would keep them from spawning!

I don't think they harm anything but your town rating! And I got one a few days after I first started my town, but I think it was because all of the things lying on the ground...

Hmm...I'm lining an area with gyroids. I suppose they'll count as "trash", tho. Still, I like the way they look lining a path I have. Maybe I'll get one of those, then! It would be unique, I guess.

yea, I'm still pretty curious, because I'd rather not get another one ^o^. I think (for me, at least) it had something to do with lack of trees. I was totally paving my town for patterns, and then I was going to re-landscape, and in the process my town reverted to "worst" status :p

Obtaining one of these killer plants should mean that your town is pretty bad, like worst of the worst bad. Unless you fix up your town (in previous games this is because of the PWP's trick now) there would be no way to get rid of it. The only achievement you get from it is that you now have the proud honour of saying your town stinks, literally. The villager comments in the town rating would basically say how bad it is and in the previous games, Pelly or Phyllis (depending on the time of day) would hint at it being 'the strange plant that's appeared'. This is because in real life it's pretty much known as the 'corpse flower' or 'meat flower' because it looks and smells like rotting flesh. You'll often find flies buzzing around because they're attracted to said smell. I only ever got one in my old Wild World town when I lost it for a year, so my knowledge on the plant is minimal so that's really all I know.

They're pretty harmless though. Just an annoyance more than anything. Not sure about New Leaf though because it spawns when there's rubbish and weeds everywhere and most, if not all the plants are dead and trees are gone (though in my ww town, I still had all my trees). It could a glitch in the programming that's causing it to appear in average-perfect town states though, that's the only theory I have as to why it's appearing as it is right now.

Ugh...well, I don't think I want THAT sort of "achievement" then. I've had crap laying all over my town for ages while I work on it and I've never had one appear. Maybe because I have both the BTO and I have enough trees and flowers.

I didn't know it would attract flies, tho. Okay then - I certainly don't want a literal garbage dump. Thanks for the heads up!

Hm. Well do you have any pwps in your town, or trees/flowers??

I only have two PWPs - an additional bridge and a bench. I have a TON of flowers thanks to Beautiful Town, and I do appear to have plenty of trees. That's why I'm so perplexed; everything would suggest that it shouldn't have appeared, yet it did. -_-

They don't harm anything, they're just an eyesore. :D

Yes, I was under the impression that they appeared when your town had the worst rating possible, which I find to be odd. My town is covered in flowers, has no weeds, very few items on the ground, and plenty of trees. I do only have two PWPs, but I wouldn't think this alone would tarnish my rating to that extent. I'm not overly concerned about it, but I'm highly curious as to what other factors may contribute to the spawning of the rafflesia. Maybe it's due to some sort of glitch, as you said.

the same thing happened to me back when i cycled, but it was because of weeds. i killed it by plucking all the weeds and then, when that didn't get rid of it immediately, i planted flowers all around it and watered them and it was wilted the next day.

That's one of the weirdest things about it - all of the weeds were removed a few days prior to when it showed up. It's also literally in the middle of a huge flower field (thanks to Beautiful Town and lots of TT)

I'm thinking it may have something to do with trees, as I only have around 80 of them. That's the only thing I can think of, since I have no weeds, lots of flowers, and very little garbage. It seems odd that a low number of trees would tarnish my town rating so badly, but maybe?

All this talk about this mysterious flower... makes me want to see a rafflesia now! If it's indestructible does that mean you can't ax or dig it out?

Yep. Apparently it'll wilt and die off if all the weeds in your town are removed, but... I have no weeds. It can't be dug out or otherwise destroyed any other way.

Yes, besides killing it with a pwp or letting time pass with more love for your town.
If you try and axe it or dig it up, it will just bounce you back. Similar to when you do this to a villager.

I had a rafflesia just a few days ago. I have the Beautiful Town Ordinance and there were no weeds. I did not have many trees through, and I had a decent amount of flowers. But I had a lot of trash on the ground, which was the reason. I recommend that you talk to Isabelle about citizen satisfaction, she'll most likely tell you the reason. C:

I'm sorry to hear that about your town. As I can suggest like others have posted to just do a small pwp on the flower and that should completely kill it. It's very weird to hear that with the beautiful town ordinance that this is happening to you. Well regardless I wish you the best of luck and maybe see you in game! =)

I'll have to try talking to Isabelle. I have to wonder if it's simply the number of trees, and if so, if there's a dialogue for that issue when speaking to her. I guess I figured that you had to have a trash heap with no trees, no flowers, and weeds galore for your town to truly hit rock bottom, but I guess not. :D

Haha, it's okay. This is just my cycling town, so I'm not terribly concerned with how it looks since I've put minimal effort into development, just more curious as to why it spawned in the first place. Thank you for the kind words. :)
