In game mail and nintendo zone

I keep receiving in game mail from Nintendo about accessing items in Nintendo that are normally not available here. However, when I try to access the Nintendo zone on the console, it says that the feature has been discontinued. I wet to the website, and they suggest using an AT&T wifi hotspot, which I tried. Still no luck. Any suggestions?

Maybe it's hotspot specific? Like the things you can get only in Nintendo Zone or certain shops.

From the Nintendo tech forums, I guess this has been an issue since last years update, which Nintendo denies. It seem that if you go to the post office while on a Nintendo zone hotspot, you may be able to get the special offers.
