I'm super burnt out with terraforming.

Terraforming and I have a love-hate thing going on. Sometimes I love how it turns out, other times I don’t. Sometimes it’s exciting, sometimes it’s a chore. I tend to like more what I’ve done in the rural part of my town better than what I came up with in the more developed area. Guess I’m not a city designer and I should stick to more foresty designs. But I needed stuff outside for points. I already hit the five star mark but still only have one lily of the valley. Once I get a few more, I’m tearing the urban thing down and getting rid of all the clutter. I’ll turn my island into one big forest and live happily ever after with just trees, flowers, weeds and my villagers. Lol.

I actually have planned spaces in mind, what I'm scared about is if Nintendo is withholding more details, and I mean, if there's other buildings to come other than Brewster and Leif. I'd be so mad. While that's a good thing, accommodating spaces because Nintendo thinks it's cute to mix island designing + keeping future buildings a secret which WILL throw off people who worked hard on designing their islands.

They don't even have to tell what buildings they are. If they could just release building dimensions then I think no one's going to throw a fit being suckerpunched out of the blue with additional buildings. I think Nintendo has genuine intentions but they implemented this kinda poorly.
Building dimensions would be nice to know! I’d love to have an idea of what else may come. I know The Roost will, but I am wondering how Shampoodle will work. I could see Harriet fulfilling her role a little differently as a visitor. I’m not sure. That’s a good idea, though.

I often have to take breaks when I plan to do terraforming for the day. I don't even go crazy with like cliffs or rivers, but just laying paths and moving houses can be too much sometimes since it takes several days to complete, either in game or real, it can be kinda blah, doing the same thing over and over. Especially paths. haha. I always have to do a small area, go and do some stuff around the island or even close AC altogether and then come back. If not I will really start to hate my island. XD

I get pretty burnt out too, I can't say I enjoy it but I also don't hate it. Maybe terraform when you feel like it? My island looks like ____ right now because I'm trying to make my rock garden and it's been like that for 2 weeks (because they keep spawning in the wrong places... T_T) It's driving me insane because I have OCD, but at the same time, it's also a little bit liberating from having that "need" to terraform because you "have" to; you should "want" to terraform instead.

At most, I terraform maybe 2-4 hours/day (given breaks in between), every other day.

I'm more bothered by decorating things outside, for example: putting items on top of tables...
WHY WON'T IT CENTRE?!

CAN SOMEONE FIGURE OUT A HACK ON HOW TO PUT THE ITEMS CENTERED INSTEAD OF DUPING, PLEASE.

For me I just don't see the appeal of terraforming. I’m used to all of our towns being flat or with plain tiers. Towns with lots of waterfalls, cliffs, etc just make it annoying to navigate. I guess they’re pretty but I wouldn’t want to play in them.

i literally have to watch videos like, how to terraform, how to create a heart-shaped pond, how to create a double waterfall, because my mind cannot conceptually imagine these ideas and figure out how to execute them without help lol. the terraforming tools can also be super hard to use sometimes... i feel like it never does what i want it to do despite having everything pre-planned with paths and such. sometimes i'll repeat the same action 2-3x before it does what i want it to, especially with water/cliff-scaping. hang in there dormire, i'm sure the result will be beautiful! remember to take breaks!

I find terraforming super exhausting but I keep at it because I love the end product! Have never been able to terraform for more than an hour without taking a break.

The other day I was about ready to quit terraforming for the day because I was so frustrated and Fauna wandered by and went "Working hard? remember to take a break, dearie!" It was so cute I almost cried omg

I'm not burned out - yet - but I can totally imagine why burning out happens. Like, for me, it takes ages just to get started. My spatial reasoning is pretty bad and my island has two southern river exits that make it even harder for me to usefully visualize the sweeping changes I want to make. That said, I really love my island and my islanders so I am going to make the best of it. It's just going to take a long, long time. Which, I suppose, is what the devs probably had in mind.

I feel you!!!!! Terraforming is EXHAUSTING after a while. I reallllllly wish we could the thing where you hold down the A button and do multiple squares at once. It would save so much time. It gets very redundant very quickly. I'm planning on redesigning my island again and terraforming is what's making me feel like ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Gonna try and take it slower this time so I don't burn out as quickly and hate what I make. Love the option to terraform so we can make what we want but it takes a lot of planning.

TBH. Whenever I have to think about terraforming it makes my stomach hurt. LOL. I could've spent the time doing that writing stories for my islanders and decorating interiors but oof. BUT I WANT TO MAKE MY ISLAND HAVE A CRESCENT CLIFF OMG  it's sufferingto be in terraforming hell for real. I love my island map and the villagers tho. Terraforming is just really my enemy.

Yeah, I've avoided terraforming too much because it's just not for me. I'd much rather decorate a space than make grad cliffs and waterfalls. I think it's ok to take a break from it because it can be pretty frustrating. Once it works though, it is satisfying though, I'll give it that. Have you tried laying down different paths to count tiles instead? I find that to be a lot more useful than putting down items since you can still walk around. When I planned some of my stuff I just set up a grid in photoshop and planned that way before I even started anything on my island but even then it was still a pain. :(

Same lol. I've been putting off re-doing my island because I know ridding of all my cliffs and rivers only to remake them is gonna take so long and I have this vision in my mind of what I want, but OOF how do I translate it onto my island. Plus I gotta spend a lot of bells moving my villagers onto the beach. Honestly, the thought of all the stuff I have to do makes my stomach hurt but I suppose you're supposed to take it slow. My brain is just like "me want pretty island NOW!!" and that's most likely why I got burnt out so bad lol.

honestly, i get what you mean! i had a studio ghibli-themed island planned out only to realize that i hated it and i wanted to tear everything down and restart. it can get really tiring terraforming since it's such a slow process, so i try to watch something in the background so i'm not as bored! i couldn't imagine just terraforming without anything else to distract myself

you're definitely not alone. i've spent arond 8 hours today terraforming and i'm still not happy with anything i've done so far... 😬

As many others have expressed, terraforming is such a love-hate relationship! Ever since it was revealed in the direct, I spent hours fantasizing what I wanted my island to look like but this was quite difficult to do without seeing the limits of the mechanics. Still, I spent hundreds of agonizing hours moving every tree to a corner of the map (before eventually cutting them down because I ran out of room), and every flower, house, and building to the beach so that I would have space to flatten large ares of my island. Then I would spend another hundred hours over a couple weeks staring at what I just built and decided that I hated it and tore it all down again haha x.x

I guess there is some part of me that enjoys the process – or that hates myself enough – to keep doing it because after another hundred hours of building (and internally screaming) an island that I like the majority of, I find myself making moderate to fairly large adjustments to areas that I think could be better because I saw something on instagram, reddit, etc. that made me hate my island inspired me to improve an area. Stressful, yes, and destroying your own work can be incredibly disheartening, but terraforming enables endless modification to make a truly personal island.

I'm sick of it too. It usually looks nice when finished, but I really hate the limitations of trees if trying to make a forested hillside/clifftop. You lose so much space because of the 3x3 requirement of a tree. And seeing videos/photos of what people accomplish with their terraforming can also be discouraging, because you wonder how in the world they came up with that and it's so much cooler than anything you would ever think of (just went through this myself ;_;).

I actually love terraforming. Am I the only one? I could do it for hours. The controls could definitely use some fine tuning though. I’m forever knocking down a cliff where I wanted to build one, etc.

I try not to terraform too much these days, I've changed up most of the things I wanted to change and a lot of the terraforming I do now is just small things. I've had too many times where I take the time to terraform something just to end up not even liking it then having to break it down and start over with a new idea. I still want to make another pond, but I never know where to actually place it. I'll figure it out one day.

I terraform a ton once every few weeks. I need time to walk around in my changes and see how I feel about it. I also sort of have an idea of what I want, but I don't plan it out, which means I don't get disappointed when something doesn't fit.

Recently, I've been trying to decide how to fil;l smaller empty areas without just covering them in flowers... It's a process, for sure.
