I have my precommencement ceremony today for my degree, and I tell you all one thing. I honestly don't think I deserve it. I just kinda danced through college, school took a back seat to a ton of things. I made great friends, found myself, invented some interesting characters of my own, took some fun classes, took a ton I honestly went to and doodled through, dreamed of many things, tried to keep up here, lost some old friends, learned minute details of a specific river in Michigan, learned how much a single piece of mail can mean for some, lost one of the people in life I looked up to the most, gained someone to love forever, met so many people that my memory isn't able to remember everyone....

I just still feel like a kid, not really smarter than I was when I started on this forum. A look back at my oldest post does prove otherwise, but I still don't feel smarter, just a bit more refined.

I think my biggest worry exiting college is that I will basically be forced into some mundane job I don't care for. I loved working at summer camp, just the atmosphere was different than other formal settings. I feel like I need to just get hired somewhere to make money right now and not really liking whats available.... I was even thinking to try and balance it out by trying to write a novel, or work on a game mod or something to maintain my sanity.

What do you all think you will be doing when you set free of school onto the world? I honestly don't know where I'm going at the moment lol.

Oh come on, are you sure you feel like you haven't learned anything?

As I'm a Christian, I'd ask if you're a Christian. If you were, I'd tell you to pray and ask God about it.
Or he could sit very quietly and punch himself repeatedly. It would have about the same effect.

I'm sure you're ready, and I'm also sure that you've learnt more than you think. Loads of people have the same fears and thoughts as you after leaving school, you just need to take some time and realise that it's time for you to grow up.

Do you have a dream? If so then work towards accomplishing that dream, even if it means getting into a job you dislike to earn money to pay for said dream. We all have to do things we don't want to in life to get by and work towards what we truly want, just keep telling yourself that it isn't forever and that soon enough you'll be out of the job that you dislike and doing what you truly want to do, whether that be another job, travelling the world, starting a family, whatever.

Anyway, I wish you the best, hopefully you find your path soon enough.

Honestly, no matter whether you believe in god or not, this wouldn't help in the slightest.

What's going to happen then? It's not like god can comfort you with nice words in response to your worries, nor can s/he offer you a job or tell you what your dream is. All you're really doing is telling your thoughts and feelings to thin air.

To be clear I have no doubts of surviving, more of a I just don't wanna be out of school yet feeling. I've been through a ton and yeah I have learned stuff, but I don't think I learned anything I couldn't have on my own... I mean all that money in college, if it weren't for so many jobs basically requiring you to have a degree just to show you are half competent... it just seems silly to me.

I learned a lot more outside of the classroom than I did in it lol. Well at least I learned the useful things for life anyway.

I'm just anxious, I guess I never really had a clear picture of what I'd be like out of college, but I know this isn't how I thought I'd be feeling. Fun thing up until yesterday I was still worried about the grade in my last class. Rightfully so I was getting a D at midterm, but I pulled off a C+. 3.11 GPA overall, with a good grade in all the classes I actually cared about.

So yeah I guess I have learned things... still don't like my job outlook right now though... I just feel like more is expected of me than I'm willing to give up, by people like my parents, and such...

Once you get out of school, I think you'll feel differently. I feel the same with the whole I could have learned everything I've learnt without school, school is the biggest waste of time and money in my opinion, it's a shame jobs require degrees.

I honestly wouldn't worry if you don't have a goal yet, just live each day as it comes and don't worry about the future. If anything that'll just make your days longer as you don't keep thinking of the days as stepping stones to your final goal.

Live life for yourself, don't worry about your parents. Life is too short to live it trying to please everyone but yourself.

What did you major in?

I feel the same way. It's less of a deal for me, because I'm only 14, but all I know is that I want to go somewhere in the science/medical field.

Just try to find something that interests you, best of luck man.

as much as I agree with you, i advise you to not start a flame war over this, the people of tbt are for the most part pretty ignorant.

anyway, i plan on going to college for 3 years and take media arts, which is a film course, after that im going back for a 4th year to take the advanced film and television course. once thats done, im probably gonna work around here for awhile, maybe on a tv station for a few years so that I can save up a bunch of money, eventually id love to move down to LA and work in post production for big movies but we'll see what opportunities come around here first, toronto is getting big for the film industry, i really dont like that city though.
