So Deirdre decided she wants to move out from underneath me and I have no idea how I'm going to be able to cycle her back into my town without losing another of my dreamies in the process. Can I send her and another dreamie to a cycling town and be able to invite them back after the 16 villager cycle, or is it a lost cause and has this just ruined my ACNL experience?

I don't know how this works with villagers who are moving back to the town they came from and I'm extremely panicked and upset. Please help!

You can invite them back into your town after you've cycled 16 villagers, yes.

And iirc they'll remember you too.

if all your other villagers are dreamies then yes, you would have to move another one of them out also and then cycle through to get 16 more in and out very carefully, which will probably take a rather long time. Having someone (or yourself) hold them in a different town or cycle town would definitely work, so long as you're super careful about the date if they wind up in boxes before you're ready to take them back. I'm currently holding villagers for myself in a cycle town and its taking forever and very frustrating having to keep setting the day back and always remember so I don't lose one of them, especially since I paid for them to stick them in holding in the cycle town...
it is a very unfortunate situation and I'm so sorry you're going through it. I hope you figure out a way to make it work out, I, too love Deirdre so I completely understand, she's by far the best uchi (imo). I wish I had better news for you, but all I have are condolences :(

You can send them to another village so that they can be held while you cycle through them. Once you're done with the 16 villager cycle, you can move both of them back when they move out of the other town.
But you can also cycle her without losing another one of your dreamies. You just fill in the new villager slot with a cycled villager when she leaves and cycle them out until a new one comes. A very lengthy process but if you don't want to lose any other dreamies for the sake of cycling...

Source: Genji moved out of my old town and I had my friend hold him for me. Cycled for him and I was able to invite him back.

Ugh, I hate that whole 16 villager cycle. It should be as simple as asking them to come back as soon as possible. I also don't understand why they made it where you can't talk them out of boxes.

I'm at the point where I'm just going to TT until another dreamie moves so I can invite them over to Carousel and try to work from there. I'm pretty quick with getting my villagers to ping, so perhaps I can have them back in place by the end of the weekend. Happy Valentines day to me, lul. @A@;

And now they're starting to move without Isabelle saying anything. I'm seriously considering throwing these games out of my window, it is that infuriating.

Is it possible to backup your data onto your computer of your current save and then overwrite your file if something bad happened in your town? I mean it's too late now, but if this were to ever happen again it could be fixed.

This is only if you get a holder. If you void a villager and then win a villager in a raffle or auction, they aren't going to remember you.

Yes and no. Yes because it's possible, no because it's a huge pain in the neck to do. You'd have to make this back up every time you saved because of how the Save IDs in the game work. Basically, whenever you save, the save is affixed with a save ID, which the cart/console remembers. When the game is loaded again, the game will check the save ID. If it's the same ID, then it'll let you go. If not, corruption. There's very little room for error, and you'd have to do this as often as you play.

Currently turning my cycling town into a refuge for the three dreamies that decided to move out while I scrambled to try and figure out what was going on. At least now I have a place for them. I think I'm gonna have to take a break from AC. This really, really, really sucks.

Terribly sorry that happened to you >_<

I had this happen with Chrissy, and I only had one villager slot to fill as the cycling villager. It took a really long time and I gave up after 6 villagers and 9 months

what people do sometimes is to move out all of their dreamies, cycle them and start putting them back in their town. it is certainly quicker, but you gotta be good at it and precise, otherwise it'll be a sad mess ):
