I'm Curious~ How Did You Choose Your Dreamies?

Hello everyone!
So, I was in the process of choosing my dream villagers, and I became curious: How did you choose yours?
Were they long time favorites, or did you just like how they look? Is your town based on a story that only certain villagers would suit?

I'm not sure if there's another thread like this, but if so my apologies!

It took the longest time for me to pick my dream villagers. Two of them moved into my town in the very beginning. The rest I've picked and chosen based on various factors like personality, animal type and- though in retrospect it seems silly- house exterior. I'm very picky about having multiple villagers of the same animal, and I'd eventually like to make sure that I have one of each personality type in my town. I also think some of the houses don't really suit the theme I'm working on for my town, so that helped me narrow it down as well.

So tell me your stories! What made you choose who you've chosen?

Since NL is my first game in the AC series, I didn't have any previous attachments to villagers, outside of my Celadon starters, who will all stay because they were my first villagers ever (otherwise, I'd keep Gladys and Lobo), they are all design based. I did kick Static off of Chrome's dreamy list because of his terrible exterior, though. I also make sure I have all of the personalities. I could care less about the amount of species I have in my towns at this point, I'm going to have four sheep and three cats in Chrome, as well as three ostriches in Celadon, and it doesn't bother me at all.

I choose villagers based on appearance, except for Fang, who I got because he was in my very first town and was very sweet to me, and Gladys, who I chose for her backstory. After all, all the personalities are the same...

Oh and also Roscoe, who I chose because it reminded me of a certain webcomic character and Julian, who yes, I did like because of his appearance, but I'd chased after him for so long that I had to have him even if I had other villagers I liked more. I also chose Marshal mainly to balance out the male-female ratio.

Most of my dreamies like Rosie were in my CF town. Other than that i've actually seen most of them in the cafe and was like
"STRAWBERRY RHINO? You. Me. Town. now."

Well in Paradiso:
- Static and Rowan were starters that I fell in love with
- Henry was a camper I fell in love with
- Lolly was a wifi move in
- Alice was random move in
- Melba was a camper
- Walker I had wayyyy back in wild world and he was camping
- Pashmina I decided would be my uchi (camper reset)
- Apple i liked and I decided would be my peppy (camper reset)
- Bree I had while cycling for Walker and decided I liked her so shed be my snooty

In Sakura:

- Diana I've loved for ages and was a starter
- Rudy i camper reset for after deciding I liked him
- Lucky i also had wayyyyy back in wild world who also moved out
- Stitches I fell in love with the moment I saw him
- Erik i decided I liked and ended up losing 5 auctions in 2 days...
- Wendy i missed from Paradiso so invited her when she was camping
- Fauna I had as a camper when I was full in Paradiso, and ended up trading Marina for her
- Pekoe I've always loved and adopted her for someone who had her unexpectedly in boxes
- Marshal i hate. I hate that squirrel for being more popular that my soul mate (Stats) so I spent 5 hours plot resetting (at 8 villagers) to get him to sell, but even tho I hate him... He ain't ever leavin' xD
- Bruce i decided I wanted to be my cranky

When I say I decided I liked them, I mean I forced my sister to sit with me for about 6 hours while we went through every single villager and put together a list of dreamies before narrowing it down to 20 each (2 towns worth)

And when I get a third town I'll get Margie and Beau, I haven't decided on the rest yet ;D

I wanted Julian so badly from the moment I realized there was a Unicorn villager. It was totally design based, but when he actually moved into my town I really fell in love with him XD

Deirdre is one of my all time favorites from an old New Leaf town I had.

Nate I actually have a bit of a story for wanting him...
My boyfriend is actually named Nate, and I also tease him because he reminds me of a hungry bear. So when I realized there was an actual bear villager named Nate (I've only been playing the games since City Folk and had never seen him, so I have no idea if he's been in other games) I had to have him. When I created Ivy Lane just recently I noticed on the second or third day a house plot right next to my character house, which irritated me because I wanted that area clear for landscaping. But it happened to be Nate, so I had to keep him!

I'm boring. My only two dreamies are my two favorite villagers from my first AC game, Wild World. I miss them so much!

I'd find it boring to pick 10 dreamies, personally (that's just me! Not knocking anyone who does that), so I'm happy with the random villagers that the game gave me from the start, but I'd just really like to see Aurora and Wolfgang again, so they're the only two picked dreamies that I'm allowing myself.

Haha picking dreamies is a BIG thing for me, I'm still reorganising!

I just recently decided Lucky isn't suiting my town, and I'm thinking I may trial Flora instead, cos she's awesome, and I have no Peppy villagers!

But I take EVERYTHING into account, the look of the villager, their house exterior (and interior wall/floor, I can always change the items inside!) Their colour scheme and how I feel they will fit with my town!

I'm pretty sure I have my list set now, but I could always change one or two villagers again! I really have to bond with villagers to want to keep them forever (Which I didn't do with Blanche, Phoebe, Beau & recently Lucky)

This is basically what I did, only I have but one town (at the moment. Have been considering buying a second game u_u). I had a huuuge list, and then I went through and narrowed it down by house exterior, and then by personality/animal type. I only really have seven dream villagers, so I'm kinda hoping I end up finding three that I unexpectedly fall in love with ^_^

I'd find it boring to pick 10 dreamies, personally (that's just me! Not knocking anyone who does that), so I'm happy with the random villagers that the game gave me from the start, but I'd just really like to see Aurora and Wolfgang again, so they're the only two picked dreamies that I'm allowing myself.

I only picked seven dream villagers, and these will be the characters I will likely never part with. The remaining three I'm looking forward to randomly go through. Flo's is actually moving out of my town tonight, so I'm excited to see who else moves in.


I am SUPER PICKY about where they move into, though. If the spot is too inconvenient for my town plans, I'll reset and randomize someone new in >.<

Appearance and personality.

Genji - I hate jocks... But I think I can tolerate such a cute bunny. =3
Kabuki - Favorite Species - Cat Favorite Personality - Cranky ... and my favorite colors are red and black. And he is decorated with red. How could I NOT pick him. *.*
Julian - Smug personalities bother me... but he is a freaking unicorn. So enough said.
Coco - She is just so strange... I feel she is just so misunderstood and felt bad for her... and grew to think she is adorable in a creepy way and just want to be the one to love her. =3
Stitches - ... I really should not be obsessed with stuffed animals and plushies at this age... I really shouldn't...

I want at least 1 of every personality... so I didn't want to have any dreamies of the same personality.
The other personalities, I like a few other villagers but not enough to make them a dreamie? I don't know...

I use to have Ankha has a Snooty... because she is a cat and I have always wanted to go to Egypt to see the Pyramids and all that jazz, but after having her in my cycle town, I determined I didn't like her. I HATED the constant frown even when she was happy and singing.

Bunnie: My favourite starter from my first New Leaf town. She is super awesome and bunnies are my favourite animals too! And my town was called Bunnie, so it's a weird and awesome coincidence that she was a starter! And she's the awesomest looking bunny! Exclamation marks!

Tangy: She was a starter in my first and second wild world towns, and the first villager I ever saw. I really like her house and how she looks. It's just so awesome! Also she sent me an orange in the mail and I thought that was funny. She was the first villager to give me her picture. She's my ultimate all-time favourite villager ever!

Whitney: She was a starter in my third wild world town, the first one that didn't have Tangy. I really liked her design and she had a pretty house (until I ruined it by giving her 3 stone pillars and 2 broken pillars). Also, she always had purple roses growing around her house (I stole them all).

Curly: He was also a starter in my third wild world town. I thought he was pretty cool, and I still have his and Whitney's pics (also puddles but who cares about her, she's ugly). He was also a starter in my second new leaf town! Also he's super underrated and more people should like him.

The other bunnies are just filler because I want a bunny themed town, I've never had them before. I'll choose which ones I want to keep once I get them, I guess. idk.

I chose based on appearance lol, though some of my dreamies have changed from what they were originally because theres just too many cute villagers ; o ; now I just need one more!!! I have no uchis so I'm forcing myself to get one just so I can have at least one of every villager type! luckily I think mira is really cute bc of how she was apparently inspired by sailor venus

Rowan and Puck: Both starters in my first town in the game and I still love them
Bam: I saw him in the campsite in my first town and thought he was cute, so I invited him in and he eventually became my favorite villager in the series.
Teddy: I saw posts on tumblr with him and thought he was really cute and had awesome eyebrows, and since he's my favorite personality type I decided I wanted to get him.
Beau: He moved into my second town, and for a long time I was unsure about him. Eventually he grew on me and I decided to keep him, and he was even a starter in my current town.
Coco: She wasn't someone I planned to keep, and I can't really explain why I do want her unless you've read Toriko (and it's more than just sharing the same name as one of the Toriko characters).
Freya: I originally wanted Willow as my snooty, but Freya's plot showed up on the second reset and after seeing her house I decided to go with her, despite not really liking wolf villagers. So far I love her.
Frita: I had Frita in my first town and she ended up being one of my favorites, so I decided to go with her again this time.
Octavian: He was another I got in my second town, but I intentionally got him in my second town as well because he's a space octopus and reminds me of the one stage in Super Paper Mario.
Julian: At first I only got Julian because he matched the paths in my second town, but I ended up liking him a lot more than I expected and want him back again in my current town.

Originally I wanted one of each type, but I just can't find any peppy villager I can stand so I'm getting another jock instead. I was planning on getting another uchi instead of a normal too, but Coco ruined that plan.

I started with the full list of pictures and made a long list of any that I liked how they looked.

Then I looked at their houses and more shots of them to eliminate some? and then I eliminated based on personality and species. My ideal was to have all the personalities and not too many of the same species.

In my final choices I visited them in friends towns or dream towns to see how I liked them in person.

I picked my favorite villager from each personality type. Except for O'Hare, who randomly moved in before I had picked a smug, and for Molly, who camped.

I didn't have any dreamies until Zell moved in, and seeing as how he was my third deer, I thought... why not try to adopt ALL of the deer? Seeing as how there are exactly ten deer, it's a perfect fit! I also LOVE the animal crossing deer. I think they're all so lovely and soft and sweet, and I love the way they walk and the little tap of their feet on the ground! I would really love to have a forest of deer, I think that enviroment would be so calming and peaceful for me I'd love to make my town look pretty and then have a nice dream town full of all the deer that people can visit and explore!

I didn't choose my dreamies until after I had quite a bit of villagers that I liked. So I chose the villagers I definitely wouldn't want to leave, and ruled out the ones that I decided could leave. I still kinda like the villagers, but if they naturally decided to leave I'd let them go. (I then chose Anchovy, since he's my favorite villager, and Maple, since she was in my friend's town and I liked her)

Then I looked at the personalities of the villagers that were left, and looked out the ones I didn't have many of or didn't have at all. I knew I wanted a squirrel (because really, what's a town without at least one squirrel?) Then I realized I had like all girls in my town except for 2, so I chose a squirrel that was a guy (Marshal, being a 2nd Smug). Then I realized I needed either a Jock or Cranky, since I had neither of them. Then I didn't know which one I wanted so I came here and posted a thread to help me decide. Then I chose Cranky and chose my favorite (Wolfgang). Aaaaand then the hunt began.

Hopper - He was the very first villager I ever saw, ever talked to, ever knew about, and my first friend when I first played AC. He is a cranky. My favorite type. He has the BEST!!!! EYEBROWS!!! EVER!!!!!

Hans - I have always loved Cryptids. So seeing this Yeti for the first time. I knew had had to stay!

Mira - I am a total Sailor Moon fanboy, and knowing there was one based on Sailor Venus, I knew she HAD to live in my town.

Rory - Lions are my favorite animal! I love his design, and I have always had a soft spot for the name Rory. It was the name of the very first Beenie Baby I ever got!

Bam - I wanted to try out one of the new deer villagers and I REALLY am happy I decided to take this guy! He is awesome!!!

Clay - Love the Dogu statue appearance.

Drago - He's a dragon!!!!!

Phoebe - She's a phoenix!!!!!

Ankha - I LOVE mythology, and she is an obvious reference to Egyptian mythology!

Marina - I love the octopi!
