I'm Confused. Clarification Please? (Villager trading for NMT)

Excuse my ignorance, but I'm a tad confused here at the current popular "currency" option for trading villagers. If players are bidding well over 1000 NMT for a villager (which clearly is insane imho) then why aren't they just using them to find them on islands?

With well over 1000 NMT, I'd say you have a pretty good odds of getting the villager you want? Let alone modded switches that can allow that player to gain whatever villager they desire? Please correct me if I'm wrong here, but I truly do not understand how NMT are even a "currency" when said "currency" could be used to find the villager you desire? Especially when a dupe/glitch cheat is involved?

May someone explain to me please about this because frankly, I'm very much puzzled.

I don't know what you mean by duping or glitching tickets. But I will say this, you have a chance at getting a villager with your tickets. Some people prefer to throw chance out the window for a guarantee at getting their dreamie. I don't see anything wrong with that. I also don't see the relevance of mentioning a modded switch to get any villager in this case. There is a significantly smaller percentage of those with modified switches than those with them; given this fact, most people are not editing villagers into their game with a save editor, therefore it really has no meaningful impact on the in-game economy. It would be a different story if you were talking about the duping glitch that they patched early on, as that was very easy to replicate, abuse, and produce an influx of bells into the game.

I'd guess it has something to do with the fact that actually going to 1000+ mystery islands back and forth is much more time consuming and tedious than just paying 1000 to get guaranteed that villager. I do think the 1000+ prices are kinda outlandish, though.

It's quicker and less work to buy them, so people probably don't want to take that extra time to visit islands when they can easily buy the villager they want!

right now the economy is super inflated, and honestly don't know either how people are collecting SO many tickets. i think the mods should definitely be keeping an eye out for crazy monetary amounts like these, and unfortunately, all we can do right now is wait for the economy to stabilize and we can start getting villagers for more reasonable nmt amounts.

i don't know much about the dupe glitch but i know it got patched pretty early on. i'm also pretty sure you couldn't dupe nmt, so that's why it's even more puzzling to me how people are getting so much. can you buy nmt using bells in the terminal? if you can, maybe people who duped and got a ton of bells are now converting them into nmt...
i'm not sure though because i don't do those things ;;

It's true with that many tickets you would have a pretty high chance of finding your desired villager, but it's still just that... a chance. Plus, all the time it would take to continue traveling to the islands during your search could potentially add up to days or even weeks if your luck is poor enough. I think people just prefer to use those tickets to guarantee them 100% the villager they desire.

You could never dupe tickets with the dupe glitch that was patched. People are getting tons of tickets from trading/selling services and items in game. People with high turnip purchase prices on their island sometimes charge people to visit, that charge may be in the form of NMT. People farm tickets relatively easily, but there's also those who buy NMT on ebay/etsy for real cash.

I assume people are getting a lot of NMT by just getting lucky I'm receiving a very high requested dreamie and just asking for whatever everyone else asks for (IGB/NMT) as currency and then they get offers? So then that "normal" player is now among the ranks with the "high rollers" dealing with NMT.

I know it still doesn't explain how those players received that much NMT but I can only guess logically how the NMT are being passed around?

Pretty sure they stack up to 10. So you can carry 400 at a time if that's the case. Still gotta make like 3 trips, which is a pain, but not as bad as that horrendous dialogue with the dodo man 1,000 times to get a villager with the tickets instead

Ahh, yes, that is how I initially thought they (as in most players) ate receiving thatuch NMT yes, but I guess my question I'm trying to get across is how exactly did anybody get NMT that high to begin with? I mean, high enough to constantly pass them out as currency? I'd say only 1% of the ACNH population to even remotely receive 500 NMT let alone 1000+ must have used some type of glitch or hack? If it's not a dupe, then a hack is clearly imminent no?

Yeah, your question already been answered. Very easy to get tons of NMT through trading/selling with other players or buying on Ebay like Mello and the others have said.

Ahh, so they hacked the bell amount and then purchased the tickets? Or they naturally earned all of these bells? Hard to imagine they naturally earned the bells aha

I have seen some people come forward in other threads and claim that getting nook mile tickets through hacking is actually possible. (they mentioned something about homebrew on the switch? mairen doesn't understand much about that stuff).
