I’m a non-TTer thinking about TTing so I can kick a villager

Long before I started New Horizons, I knew I didn’t want to time travel. I had done so on all the past titles for various reasons, but I didn’t do it often, mostly to participate in an event I missed or to catch certain fish and sell before shops closed. But that’s not how I wanted to play New Horizons. I wanted to naturally progress and not resort to time traveling. I am not against other TTers, I simply choose not to do it. However, the way they made villagers move out is making me reconsider.

My first campsite villager was Klaus, who I had in my New Leaf town in the past. I liked him, but I wanted to make room in my town so I could make room for a cranky villager, it’s the only personality I don’t have. However, I’ve noticed that it’s become much harder to get villagers to move in this game compared to past titles. I like that they don’t have villagers just randomly move out without warning, but it makes it harder for you to come across a wide variety of villagers.

I’ve seen the new kicking strategy of TTing a month and a day ahead, then going back a month, then going back and forth, and it seems like the best strategy for the time being. I’m very tempted to take that route, but my concern is that it requires TTing. It seems like TTing is much more forgiving than it was in past games: flowers don’t wilt and villagers won’t randomly move out. It seems that I can time travel to get rid of Klaus, then go back to present time without any repercussions. Stitches (my #1 fav) has tried to move out twice in a row, and I haven’t had anyone else try to move since then, and I’m starting to lose my patience. Are there any other possible consequences I may have for TTing? I am scared of feeling guilty for TTing, and I want to weigh the pros and cons before I make a decision. I’m sorry for the giant wall of text, I didn’t mean for it to get this long. If you have any thoughts or advice it would be greatly appreciated.

I didn't want to either but it would take an eternity to get everyone you want without it. Once I get rid of the villagers I don't like I'm going to completely stop.

this is the only thing that made me TT in this game, i've never TT-ed in previous games. i haven't found any serious consequences besides some more weeds in the town. otherwise, it's a failproof method and have gotten my lineup of dreamies relatively quickly because of it!

That's basically what I did. I TTed to move out certain villagers but when I actually play the game, I don't TT at all. Now that I have all my dreamies, I don't have to worry about it XD But I would recommend TTing to kick them out. It worked well for me.

But yah I would usually stay within the same month when I TTed and when I was done just go back to the real date.

Also advice...if you have flowers growing everywhere...you might want to wall them off because if u tt like crazy to move villagers out, your flowers will grow out of control. Unless u want that LOL Also you'll get a lot of weeds. But can't really help that :c

There's nothing wrong with choosing to time travel if it suits your vision for your village and helps you to have more fun with the game you love. If you feel as though the wait for a given animal to move out is detracting from your ability to enjoy the game, and thereby your experience with ACNH, I think TTing is completely justified.

Of course, Amiibo cards are a valid option as well, if you're so inclined and able to acquire them. :)

I really wish NOA would re-release amiibo cards. I have a few, but none are villagers I really like. Thanks so much for all the replies everyone! This has been very helpful in my decision-making process.

you'll get a lot of weeds, your days played will go up, turnips'll spoil if you have any. honestly i felt kind of guilty, but i also just wanted villagers i really like, and now i'm happy with most of the villagers i have and i'll be letting the ones i won't be keeping permanently move as they please. i know it'll take a while but now that i have acceptable villagers getting my dream line up will be a more long term goal.

i'd say that if the villager(s) that you want to move out is/are making your experience negative in any way, you should TT. the guilt won't be bad enough to really affect you if you get a villager you really love (at least in my experience), and i'd say overall that as long as it makes your game experience better in some way that it's worth it!

I was in the same situation as you. I ended up TTing a villager out and going back to regular time.
As someone else said your flowers will get out of control if you don't fence them in.
Also If you care about your nook mile achievement being accurate (Active Island Resident), then dont do it unless you plan to go 300 days in the future. And that's loading and saving the game 300 days.

I was the same way. Totally understand the guilt. So far I've limited my TT to only getting villagers out and to only stay within the same month. Can't say I regret it because I love seeing the new villagers and new dynamics around town

I was the same. I was studiously playing the game non-TT, then I saw someone was offering their Frita for free. I had an ugly gorilla taking up way too much space on my island, so I TT'd to kick him out, moved Frita in, then put the game back to normal time. I still feel guilty.

I'm refusing to TT even for villagers, and I guess I gotta say the fact that I don't have a dreamie list probably helps me because it makes my work a lot easier. I've found methods I can use for getting a random camper to boot out who I want them to (basically the second half of the campsite method), as well as for getting the move-out conversation to land on a specific villager (haven't tried that one yet, need to make sure it's safe lol).

Yes it definitely takes a long time between move-out pings, that's the inconvenience of not TTing I guess. That and should I ever go looking for a specific villager I'd have only like a day to do it.

Hi do I only ever TT to move out villagers but besides that I dont TT i always go back to my rl date so theres no major repercussions besides weeds, and the daily miles u get from the atm machine resetting

the pros i guess are u sometimes get gifts from mom, lily of the valley spawns if u have a 5 star island, if its night time sometimes u see celeste, plus sometimes u get a campsite villager

but yeah i think its okay to TT just to move villagers out since you are gonna go back to your rl date afterwards

It's a trade off. I can wait forever while being unhappy with the villagers I have, or I can TT and be unhappy that I did something I feel guilty about, but then I'll be happy that I have villagers I like.

I was against TT (for my game, not in general) but I have done it to remove villagers. I do feel like it is a slippery slope and can make you feel weird about your game.

This is all personal taste, of course, but to keep things as authentic as possible, I would recommend being hyper focused on your goal. If you feel like you are "cheating" (not really the word I'm looking for) don't collect fossils or go after money spots or any other distractions (and if you do, don't beat yourself up over it by any means). Take time travel one day at a time. That way, your villagers don't comment so much about your absence. And when you finally get to the day in which a villager wants to move out, keep track of that day.

In any case good luck with your quest of removing a villager!

I have never TT'ed in any Animal Crossing game, until New Horizons. Basically for the same reason as you: it is now so much easier to get rid of particular villagers, and now I have entered the online community, it is also much easier to get the villagers you want :)

I don't feel guilty about it, I will stop once I have my favorite villagers, though!

I've always been super hesitant to TT, but I started in NH because I wanted to move in / out villagers. I haven't noticed too many consequences! Here's what I noticed:
  1. There may be more weeds depending on the length of time you jump, but it does not affect your town rating.
  2. Turnips can spoil, so I'd sell those first.
  3. Villagers rarely mention that you've been gone a long time, unless you jump weeks/months
  4. Your daily Nook Miles bonus at the ABD resets if you don't check it every day you load.
Also, I've had really good luck getting out specific villagers with this method:

I have used the same method! Though I think his talk about it only taking ten minutes is WAY too optimistic... specifically if you have some villagers you don't want to go away :p Usually, it takes me around 45 minutes or so.

I don't usually TT but I did once a few days ago just to get Dom on my island. He doesn't have an amiibo yet and I had someone who had kindly spent a few days trying to get him in boxes for me for free. I didn't want to jump forward 15 days or a month or something so I just went one day forward until I found someone who wanted to move out. I think it took a bout 2 weeks time traveling a dat forward in game for this to happen and an hour irl. I'm sure it would take quite a bit longer if I wanted a specific villager to move out, but I was just hoping one of the villagers I liked but could live without would ask (not one of my favs).
I was also worried about feeling guilty since I had been kind of a purist about TT but I felt fine afterwards and now I have another villager I love.
