After digging up like... 200 clams for a stringfish earlier this month, I could only be bothered to dig up enough for 2 more stacks ;-; I did remember to customize my pole though, I did it after every... 3 runs of the tourney, just to be safe !

You could very well still play that way, bait just makes fishing easier/faster.

Maybe 210 clams and 4 rods? It zoomed by quickly though, barely notice how many I dug up and crafted. I rolled with the punches and took my time with it. Honestly, I'm happy that CJ just gives you whatever you don't have yet rather than getting dupes all the time. I know it would've driven me insane if that was the case and I was digging up 500+ clams.

I made exactly 100 bait to use for the tourney, i had friends over to do it together so we managed to rake in more points and save more resources. I gave some bait to a friend to use and I still ended with 5 bait left. I actually made 3 extra rods in preparation too but I didn't even break the one I had before today, so now I have 3 extra rods chilling for when I finally grind for the new fish this month because I've been avoiding fishing due to the egg day stuff. I got so tired of eggs x'D

Don't worry, I hardly used any bait, and rarely use it when fishing normally either. It's completely optional. I think I used 10 bags of bait total just because it's what I had in my storage already. I was easily able to get all of the prizes and the bronze trophy. Not bad considering I'm at work and couldn't play a ton.

I don’t think the fishing rods broke if you used them during the three minutes. If I caught one as time expired, my rod broke immediately, because I think breaking was put on hold temporarily. Of course, your experience may say otherwise.

Yep. Painting it resets the breaks to zero.

I must have missed the part where Nintendo forces you to use bait. Oh wait, it isn't and works the same as every other game... Tbh I don't know about all of you but clam collecting as got to be one of my favorites activities because it's so calming/relaxing.

yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaah idk how you some of you didn't use any bait. i tried it twice and snapped up several eggs and ended up with only 2 actual fish by the end of the time limit. said no to all of that real quick.

at any rate, i don't mind too much making bait - but i can definitely see how it's annoying lmao quite the process.
ended up with all of the items along with 2 dupes before i decided to call it quits, probably broke ~ 3 fishing rods haha got distracted by a few bugs and balloons though. -____-;;

I didn’t even consider using bait. Am I the idiot for not thinking of that, or would I have been an idiot for digging up clams all day? Maybe we all both won and lost in our own ways xD

For my experience bait wasn’t necessary. I only did two sets with another person, and then between 10-15 on my own, netting myself all but one prize and the Bronze trophy.

I had fun running down the beach, catching 3-7 fish every set! If anything this has gotten me more into fishing, so I’ll probably start experimenting with using bait from now on.
