As someone who had 900 (sold raymond) I actually found Marshal island hopping only 3 times. I say give it a go its kind of fun, and you always know you have the ability to bid and buy too.

I quite enjoy island hopping and I have come across a number of pretty great villagers before! I Using NMTs to bring new villagers (and new possible dreamies) to my island is really fun to me.

Depends who you are looking for.. Any of the rare to find ones I'd use the tix to buy as you might not find even one with 600 tickets. I am talking Raymond, Judy, Audie ect.... Sure you can find them with that amount or less (I did) but you have a chance of striking out as well..

Most others you can probably find with 600 tickets. Heck you might even find 4 or 5 great choices with that many. Another benefit of using the tickets to search is you can get the resources off each island, get another furniture item and find more DYI's washed up on the beaches...

So I guess it all depends who you are looking for....

Island Hop. I'm not super desperate for my dreamies, so I'd like to meet all kinds of villagers. Plus that's more or less 600 furniture items to get from trees, and DIYs to get from bottles.

I'm thinking with 600NMT I could get about

30,000 weeds
18,000 iron (Valued at over 5,000,000 bells if you senselessly sell them to Nook)
600 wasp / nests (1,680,000 bells)
a few hundred DIY bottles
and more.


I'd definitely take the 600 NMT.

Trades, in game services ect... Some ppl open their Island up to sell Turnips if they have a high price and charge NMT to visit ect...

I'd just buy them. Island hopping sounds awful and I don't really want to have to keep resetting my clock back with an open plot.

Some have claimed to bought them off ebay (They do exist), others I've seen charge 5NMT per visit to sell turnips. If using turnip.exchange, this means you can make about 300 a day. (If using TT, you can skip to a good turnip day)

Last but not least, if RNG is in your favor, you get a new villager in your campsite, such as Raymond, and sell him for 2000 NMT.

You can theoretically use TT to speed up getting campers, and good turnip prices. So yes, in a way, TT too.

I have all my dreamies from amiibos, but in that situation I’d probably just buy them with NMT. I really couldn’t be bothered with the grind of island hopping. Far too tedious, and considering I nearly had a breakdown grinding balloons just to get all the Sakura DIYs... it’s not for me. But what would I do in my current situation with 600 NMT? Trade for items and DIYs.

Pay outright. I wouldn't want to risk not finding the dreamie I want. RNG can be a fickle, cruel beast.

if I personally had 600nmt and wanted raymond, I would probably just try the campsite trick to see if it would work first, then keep the nmt to get items/flowers/anything else I need since you can basically just buy everyone's entire stock with that kind of money

but if you're specifically looking to choose between island hopping or buying out, I would vote for island hopping. more fun, you can get hybrids, diys and materials for it (you could get the nook mile achievement for selling 1000s of weeds for example) and you kinda just get the experience of having met tons of villagers. sounds like a blast to me.

edit: I believe someone commented earlier on a different thread saying you have about a 40% chance of getting raymond with 500 tickets. can't calculate what 600 would be because I'm an idiot. but I guess I would just say be prepared for the risk if you do island hop

Island hopping, definitely! Personally, I think it's more fun than outright exchanging NMTs to get a dreamie. Still, I can't help but be in awe at people who spend that much tickets to get their dream villager. I admire the dedication for sure!

Island hopping is more fun. Also, I can stock up on resources and earn bells while I'm at it. Also I don't mind how long it takes for me to get my dreamies, like if I get them that's great but if I don't that's fine too. I'll get them when I get them lol

I mostly use NMTs to buy items that aren't villagers like recipes, hybrids, special items like mom items, etc. Makes it easier to get stuff.
When I have an empty plot I'll try island hopping with like 20-30 or so tickets just to try my luck.

I'd use them to go island hopping! I already do a lot of that just for the fun of fishing and exploring; I love traveling to the Nook Miles mysterious islands.

That said, I used an amiibo card to get Hopper onto each of my two islands (two switches). And I also used an amiibo card to get Hans in one of my towns, not for any good reason but just because I could. He's not even a dreamie! LOL

Other than that, I have found it very interesting to get unexpected residents for my other villagers, though. To me, they seem much better developed than they were in ACNL and I am really enjoying becoming re-acquainted with them. A couple of days ago I told Gigi she could move, when she asked. Not that I hate her or anything, but I am just curious to see what random villager I might get next.
