Idk if my mom would lose her wallet and someone would just keep it the loss would hurt us immensely, so I'd have no desire to do that to someone else. Like I can understand taking small money that just lays on the ground, but just keeping the entire wallet to yourself seems so evil.

If I saw the person who dropped it, I'd flag them down and give it back. If it was a populated area but I didn't know who dropped it, I'd return it to a lost and found.

If no one was around, not even gonna lie, I would pocket any cash, then check the wallet for an address to mail the thing back to. The money to mail it back would come out of whatever I found inside it.

Edit: I should mention that I am evil. Also poor, but mostly evil.

A single mom left her purse in a cafe next to where I worked. It had $200 dollars in it. She was in tears because the cafe had closed and she didn't know if her purse was still there. The $200 bucks would pay a bill and put food on the table for her and her child. Luckily, I knew the owner and was able to call them and have them open the cafe to look for the purse. It was right where she left it. This woman cried tears of joy.

Shame on anyone who would take something that you didn't work for. This could happen to you, and you better hope and pray that an honest, caring person finds your wallet, and not a thief like yourself.

check their id, see where they are from. if it is far away take it, if not return it

I would probably just stand there staring at it trying to figure out what I want to do about it.

I'd want to take the money in it but then return it but the guilt would eat me alive so I'd just leave it there.

I'm worried about some of the responses in this thread. Why would you take the money? It would kind of ruin the whole action of doing something really caring and thoughtful, lmao. It's *******ish. I hope if I ever lose my purse that you guys never get your hands on it. ):

Oh and if I saw someone had dropped it in a public place like a shopping centre or something, I'd hand it into like a lost and found desk, that's usually the first place that people would go if they've lost something.

Finder's fee.

^ this. Also we're actually helping to return the wallet, it has a lot of valuable stuff I don't imagine someone would mind parting with or having it in some stranger's hands. It's all about getting paid for our effort. It could be much worse.
