If Nintendo were to buy Megaman?

My friend and I were talking about this and I said that if Nintendo were to buy Megaman it would be highly unlikely, but they would actually do something with Megaman. A few Megaman games have been cancelled such as Rockman Online, Megaman Legends 3, etc. Megaman is barely used now, but one of Capcom's most popular characters.

What are your thoughts on this?

It's likely seeing that he is rarely used, but I feel like if Nintendo were to buy Megaman that they would make the games easier. Kid Icarus Uprising and Fire Emblem Awakening are beyond easy. Besides, Nintendo is struggling enough with their own franchises.

Personally, I'd be happy for them to buy Megaman due to his recent "breakdowns" with Capcom, Nintendo would personally welcome Megaman to the rest of their franchises, however, it wouldn't be easy, Nintendo have never made a Megaman styled game so It'd be hard to expect Nintendo to make a solid Megaman release if they were to buy the character.

Hnnngh, this makes me wish X was playable in Smash instead of normal Megaman.

I wouldn't mind. Maybe another game to throw to Retro Stuido's since they do well with the franchises they're given.

It would certainly be better than Capcom keeping hold of Megaman. The only thing they do these days is let him out to appear as a guest in the occasional fighting game. He's just being wasted at Capcom. I think I would rather Nintendo try making a game and it not being very good rather than Capcom doing absolutely nothing with him.

How so?

LOL Nintendo is not struggling with their own franchises...

She meant the on Wii U, it is struggling. The same way the Wii was. Quite sorry for the misunderstanding she told.

Well struggling is not the right word, Nintendo is not struggling with the franchises nor the Wii U, the sales are not too good, that is something entirely different than you both are saying.

The franchises are still up and going and they keep making new installments for them despite the Wii U not selling well (It actually does sell well recently) so it is safe to say that both the Wii U itself and the franchises are not stuggling at all.

He would actually be owned by people who care about him, and would probably get some good games. I'd be all for it.

Only problem the Wii U has is its distinct lack of titles. They keep focusing on their handheld and leaving the home console to rot with a few steaming piles of garbage, with very few good games mixed in(Smash Bros U, Mario Kart 8, Hyrule Warriors to name a few of the better titles).

Well Nintendo has a lot of games in development since the Wii U released, 3DS never had too much more games in development at a time and keep in mind that the 3DS has a lot more third party support.

...I'll give you that one.

BUT they need to release some more games on the Wii U instead of just having every single one I'm waiting for still being made. Least I can go get Mario Party 10 today(alas, I'd probably get in trouble if I went walking down the street with my hylian shield and master sword xD)

Yeah but we have 4 big titles coming this year including: Star Fox, Yoshi's Woolly World, Splatoon and Xenoblade Chronicles X (Sadly there is a big chance Zelda won't be released in 2015). I think i am going to purchase every game except for Xenoblade Chronicles X, i did not really like the atmosphere from Xenoblade Chronicles.

I also really hope that Animal Crossing gets announced with this years E3 presentation and gets released at the end of 2016 because the Wii U could really use an Animal Crossing game to boost the sales. (Not as much Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros. did but still!)

Mega Man is dead. Just let him rest.
Far from it, he has potential to become a thing again if Capcom actually try to work on a well developed title and not give any of that "B-but not enough fans!" bullcrap.

If Nintendo acquiring licensing over Megaman means that the series will see a resurgence then I'd be interested in it.

I agree with the person that said Nintendo buying Mega Man would lead to easier games, but you probably wouldn't see many Mega Man games released at all. I'm not sure how much they would push him as a character because they already have a character with a blaster for an arm (Samus) and they wouldn't want to hurt the Metroid brand too much.

It may not make sense at first, but from a business perspective they seem really protective of their IPs and don't want the confusion of multiple types of the same character. Just like I doubt you would see them push a character who wields a sword and shield while using magic, etc. because they don't want a bunch of Link type characters that would diminish the brand of Link.

A major reason people love Legend of Zelda series so much is because you get accustomed to playing as Link, you want to save Hyrule again and go on a grand adventure with your old friend who you know and trust. In a way, he becomes a part of you and you want experience that time and time again.

With many other game series made by other companies you often don't develop that connection and while you may enjoy the game you often don't feel as attached to them as you do with Nintendo characters. There are always exceptions (for me Master Chief, Lara Croft, John Marston, etc.) but for the most part in my experience, I don't care about characters in other games as much as I'm attached to the individual characters of Nintendo.

There's enough fans demanding Megaman that he got into Smash, so I doubt it.

Besides, if Sonic still isn't 'dead' after a ton of horrible games and still manages to scrape by just from his name, Megaman is far from deceased.

I dunno, I think there's enough difference between Megaman and Samus to make the two characters/series unique.

It's sort of the same reasoning with the 2D Mario Platformers and Donkey Kong Country. They're pretty similar but still unique enough to exist side by side...Obviously not from a visual perspective since Mario isn't an ape and doesn't collect bananas but at its core, they're very similar.

Nintendo doesn't even use all of the IPs it does have. I wouldn't want it to take on Mega Man. Star Fox, F-Zero, and Metroid all need some more love. Especially F-Zero.
