Bells

The island tours are great and all, depending on what tours they are, but it's time consuming and a bit annoying to have to grind through tours to save up for an item that is 40 medals. And I'm currently trying to get TWO 40 medal items by grinding the Bug Free for All tour over and over again for only 8 medals a tour, if the bugs cooperate that is.

Buying medals with bells would be something nice to add to a future Animal Crossing game. Of course it would be optional and the medals wouldn't be cheap, like 50k per medal.

What do you guys think of this idea?

Probably an idea that a lot of people thought of so I'm not taking credit and yeah it might make getting medals way too easy but then again, making money is pretty easy in and of itself. And 50k for a medal isn't cheap. That's 2 million bells for 40 medals. Yeah, even I'm not willing to spend that much on medals but it would be nice to have the option of buying at least 5 or 10 medals with bells then do tours for some medals, also it would also be nice to have the option of even trading medals in Club Tortimer. I understand Island Tours are supposed to be the only way to get medals, but it would be nice to have other option in case you get randomized tours you're not a fan but have no choice but to do, just because the shop is selling items you need or want. Like right now, the random tours on my island are all tours I don't particularly like, but my island shop is selling two Mermaid themed items i need for Swan's house.

I love earning medals.
I've got about 5000. ^_^
They add up fast, especially if it's a tour you enjoy.

The Tuna Kahuna, and Giant Dragonfly tours give 20 medals for gold.
Try doing those over and over, and you'll earn a heap of badges very quickly. ^_^

That's a lot of medals lol I don't hoard medals (or money) but maybe I should start. I'm a spender, not a saver lol

But the option to buy them again, would be optional and not something that is forced on people. (kind of like the option to buy bells with Meow Coupons)

I would do those tours you mentioned, but the game didn't randomly give those tours to me today. I can also do the Hide in Seek and Scavenger Hunt tours all day and rack up medals like crazy but those aren't tours the game gave me today either. And unfortuately, since there are two Mermaid items I need in the island shop, I have no choice but to grind through these not fun tours but I'm seriously going to start considering hoarding.

I don't hoard them.
They just build up while I'm having fun earning them.

That's the point. To earn, not buy.

I have spent over 6000 medals purchasing every item that can be bought.
I island hopped for ages, getting all the rare stuff. ^_^

I have about 500 from shark wrangler or whatever it's called, I'm better at the fishing and gardening games then anything else.
Plus, free flowers! Woo!

I understand the 'earn not buy' argument all too well considering the vow I made, but again, it would be nice to have the option to buy medals especially if the game gives you tours you don't have fun with just to get that 40 medal item the game decides to put in the shop at that particular time.

Edit: Apparently I'm the only one who thinks the buy medals for bells option is a good idea. Now I feel stupid for making this thread. I'm going to go disappear now.

True.
Maybe meow coupons to medals? or you can only buy a certain amount per day?
If you could just buy medals, then all the stuff on the islands would be worthless.
"If everyone's special, no one is."- Syndrome

How is buying medals any different than using TBT or IGB to buy rares from people on here, including rare stuff from the island that you didn't earn? I mean, people buy things like the mermaid series, cabana series, wet suits, and other island stuff because they don't want to take the time to EARN it themselves. (and ANYONE with an island can get all the rare stuff from the island themselves without buying it from people) So how is that any different than someone using their own in game money to buy medals to get the same stuff they spend money to buy from people on here?

The meow coupons to medal and a limit a day sounds like a good idea.

I ask myself that question often.
I do use TBT to buy content I can't get, but it's a last resort.

The island and it's tours are always there, you can earn medals 24/7.

Some content (DLC for example) isn't available in my country, and never was, or will be.

even though i have the silver medal badge for a while now ( i guess i'm at 2500+ now )
it's just so tedious, since you only get a few per like 5 minutes.
and it's so annoying that the first one is easy at 300
the silver one is also still easy at 1500
why couldn't they make the gold just at 3000 instead of 5000 ?
5000 is so much...
and with a lot of them you only get like 6 at a time.
and it takes like 5 minutes for 1 tour.
that means it takes 833,33 ( and since you can't take a third of a tour, we must round up to 834 ) tours that give 6 medals.
which means you're busy doing that over, and over, and over for like 4170 minutes which is 69 and a half hour to get...

i know only of 8 people who have this badge, it's ridiculous.
there is in my opinion only 3 badges that are harder.
1 is the streetpass badge ( not really living in a highly populated area... )
2 and 3 shared spot, the fishing and bug catching i caught countless of bugs and fish, yet i still don't have these two, i'm only at silver.
and streetpass... i don't even have bronze

Also, if you earned your IGB, you're using your earned money to buy something you need or want. Not really any different than people using their earned IGB or TBT to buy stuff on the forums, including more IGB.

But, luckily for the people who don't really care for this idea, it's not really my decision what they add to the game.

Wish me luck as I grind though more bug tours for this mermaid wall.

The game gave me all the diving tours today and knowing how annoyed I get with that, I can tell that's not going to work. And it gave me all the labyrinth tours and the bug tours. Not a fishing, scavenger, Balloon or Hide n Seek tour in sight. And I like those. See what I'm talking about? Why all the diving tours when diving is my least favorite activity in this game? But I'm not going to start ranting about the island tours because that's not what I made this thread for.

I did so many tours to get my town covered in bush starts lol. It was really fun going online and doing challenges with others. Half the fun of NL is also playing with others and I love the online part. Sure some people avoid it like the plague, but there's only a few bad eggs out of the lot online.

But if you hate the tours, just do a Retail trade and give tbt or whatever.

Get gold in Tuna Kahuna 50 times, and that's 1000 medals.

It adds up, if you just have fun and don't keep checking your medals.

Excellent point, anyone can buy anything here or earn it themselves the ye olde fasioned way; if you take belltree (or anywhere else) out of the equation, you have to island hop and medal grind.
I just bought a hibiscus hairpin on reddit since I couldn't find them.
I'm just not sure that buying medals would fit the game well, ac centers around patience and earning your way through.
Making bells is pretty easy, if you're patient, so if you could trade in bells or MCs for them, there would have to be limits or high rates, otherwise the price of island items would probably rise due to the fact that medals would be worth less (not worthless), so you'd need more ( economics is fun! :))
So in short you still need to spend time doing something, just maybe not medal grinding.
So I would prefer the meow coupons, unless you're a cycler, they're kinda difficult to get so maybe island prices wouldn't change.

I don't hate the tours, they are just too time consuming and can be annoying at times but I don't hate them. And I made a vow to not buy anything from anyone on here. Besides, the same island stuff I buy from people on here, I get get myself even though it can be a bit time consuming to do so. Maybe I should do a few tours with other people. I always do them by myself.

This Tuna Kahuna tour needs to appear on my island already. Instead it gave me all the diving tours. This game doesn't like me for some reason.

I remember grinding for medals well before I did my bush start project to get two mermaid sets. I gave them to my friends for their birthdays, but it was just so painful and time consuming. It took forever to get the medals and I swear it felt like it took even longer island hopping to find each piece.

I wish I had known about the Bell Tree around then, it would had made it a lot easier lol.

I made a vow to not buy anything from anyone on here, rare items or not. As annoying and time consuming it is, I'm NOT breaking this vow, no matter how many times the temptation to do so presents itself. There are people who messaging me and are inspired by me and want to do the same thing, I'm not going to let them down by breaking it.

My impatience and laziness is what's causing me to live in poverty in this game, because if I had the patience and wasn't lazy, I'd probably be a multi bellionaire in this game by now lol. This game centers around patience. I don't have that LOL

Yeah, earning a lot of medals would probably be easy, if the game gave you tours you enjoyed. Again, if the scavengers, hide n seek, or balloon tours came up, I can grind like no one's business but the game didn't give me those today. It's easy to say 'oh it's easy to earn medals and you can earn a lot' when you have patience and/or getting tours that you actually like.

Medals are a currency designed to be earned via participation. A different kind of 'work' than bells entirely. If you could simply buy medals with IGB, what would be the purpose of having it as a second currency anyway? It'd just be an unnecessary step of converting bells.

It can be a pain to collect them if you aren't in the mood but I think they should stay what the name implies: medals, which are earned. :)

the elite scavenger hunt is technically better since it takes about 3 minutes to beat and gives you 32 medals
and the giant dragonfly tour is also great.

but it needs to give me either of these to get momentum going.

i now do like winning 50 medals a day.
