I've seriously been considering TTing just to go to cherry blossom season but I'm worried about messing it up so I chicken out every time! Haha.

I ended up doing this myself and it worked well! Make sure you TT back to 2019 or forward to 2021 so you can avoid the eggs.

It works fine, i missed both it and bunny season cause i got the game after, so i traveled back to kill 2 birds with 1 stone. was great, though I did mess up not realizing it didn't last the whole time bunny season did

will tting a year affect anything negatively?
You can stay in 2020 for cherry-blossom season it's just the bunny event will over lap and slow you down a little. It's still a jump to go back to April though so time travelling there and back eventually will create weeds & cockroaches in your house. All your villagers will mention you were gone for months when you TT back to real time and I'm sure it effects friendship levels but I'm not 100% about that one. It's mostly just a pain to clean up your island afterwards.

It hasn’t been spring yet where I’m from so when I TT to then Isabelle says to catch the petals and I thought that would unlock the DIY’s. But you guys are saying to hit balloons ? Is there a certain colour that has them ?

It shouldn't cause too much trouble. You'll want to build up your friendships a bit again (they may say you've ignored them for months), and you may need to clean up weeds/excess flowers. Oh, and if you have turnips, they'll spoil! So, be careful with that.
Any color has them except rainbow balloons. Egg season has no effect on it either, if anything you'll get more stuff to give away/sell if you don't need it.
Normal balloons have a chance to appear every 5 minutes (XX:X0 and XX:X5 times on the clock). Just run up and down the beach when you see those times. It's not guaranteed you'll get a recipe but I feel like they changed it so you don't get duplicates anymore.

I have read that and it has proven to be true as I got a villager's photo after TTing
Edit to add that I have been so scared to TT for a long time and was surprised to find out it does not affect the game much. You pick up all the weeds in minutes, the roaches are kind of fun to chase and kill lol, and the villager dialog is new dialog after all so it was interesting to me. And they just say it the one time
I'm currently having fun in another season after I got bored of winter so for those thinking about doing it, I 10/10 recommend it if it will allow you to have more fun playing
