i sent a villager a letter saying this:
I hate you and your ugly.

and then i got a letter and this was the first sentence:
What a passoinate fan letter!

WTF is wrong with this game

Haha! Maybe they were being sarcastic? Or that's what it's like in the AC universe.

They thought you were just joking?

Was it to a snooty villager?!? They may have thought it was Opposite Day as they find themselves beautiful

Unfortunately, villagers can't understand your letters; they think it's good if they receive one. That's why, if you want someone to move, letters are most likely not as effective as other resorts.

Moving is probably random. I once got a villager from someone who had one of the most hateful words I've ever seen. I had to go ask Isabelle to force them to discard the letter so that when I passed on the villager, the letter would not distribute.

I think you did well on complementing them. I mean, it's good...well...I mean, I myself would've taken it as...an insult...well, they either are extremely stupid or have an extremely good sense of sarcasm.

Once I sent a letter to Tangy in the GC version of the game, while she was camping. However, I didn't know she was just camping, and I sent her a welcome letter. She then replied saying I was crazy.

The only other time when what I sent was actually read and taken in was when I sent an early birthday present to Victoria, because I couldn't be able to make it for her actual birthday. So I wrote it in the letter, and she responded THANKING ME FOR THE BIRTHDAY PRESENT.

Madness. No, not madness. THIS. IS. SPARTAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!

so as an experiment i will send tangy this letter:
----------------------------------
I f***ing hate you.
You are such a b****.
You are a c*** and a wh***.
Go kill your self.
----------------------------------

lets see what happens

It's not as if they are programmed to understand what you are saying. It's a game.

Aw, really? In my old town, I used to send Merengue all sorts of letters, now I'm sad she never understood them. D:

Aw. That's mean! D:
Do you really hate her that much that you'd tell her to kill herself?
Or is it just a joke?

I don't know if it's the same in NL, but I did a week long experiment. I sent a letter to everyone in my village all saying the same thing, it was something cheesy, and pretty much every letter I got in return was the same, a few of them pretty much word for word. So I spiced it up, sent the same letter again only difference is this time I changed a single word on each letter, making everyone different. The replies I got back were all completely different this time. So honestly I think it picks and chooses words. I know if I use umlauts or * in it I usually get back something on the lines of "That was so funny." or "You're hilarious!"

I sent Pompom a letter for her to move out since I wanted 9 villagers, because I had 10 at the moment.

I think she was being generous, or she really hated me, because she asked to move out 3 days later.

They don't even read the letters, I guess. They look, see it's a letter from you, throw it away, and then write a cheesy response with no knowledge of what you said.

It's because you play the game on a 2DS. And your villagers can't take you seriously because of it.
