I see lost items being put as furniture. How?

In a lot of places, I see a lot of people put those lost items in their homes. How do they do it? Every time I try, it just says "Quit".

you have to keep it in your inventory for a day or 2 then it becomes droppable

You have to hold onto them for a couple of days before you can put them as furniture.

You can't do it on the day you find the item - it is solely for delivery on that day. You should be able to drop it the next day.
