So, apparently when you sell your town, keep your catalogue and create another character, that character does still keep their catalogue and whatever they had in their bank. However, there are only so many times you can keep erasing characters to get a certain characters catalogue.

My second character in the town I sold was Hazel, who barely had a catalog cause she was a storage character. I wanted Gin-Zuki's catalogue since she was my main for a long time. I erased the second character I made, then made a new second character. I thought she still had Hazels' catalogue, so I erased her then made a new character again. Because I had 4 characters in New Town before I sold it, I got that 4th persons catalogue, who had 2 shirts. Nothing else. I erased them and made a fifth character.

The catalogues don't start cycling back over. Now I have a character with no catalogue. Which I thought I was gonna get anyway, but it's still disappointing that I couldn't get a catalog to start decorating her house with.

Sidenote: I don't want to make a new thread for this, so I'll put it here. Can someone show me the EXTERIOR of Epona's house? I can't easily pick it out from a quick Google search.

Ah they really should of put a guide for these things for us.
I recently wanted to restart so I erased my town and kept my catalog and bells. Unfortunelty , there’s a set amount of times you can reset while trying to get a perfect layout and such. By the time I finally decided on the town and layout and such, when I went to the bank and catalog (I literally had nothing).

Epona's house is the one on the left in this screenshot.

@~ExtaLeaf~ I guess I forgot to mention, it was my side character who's catalogue I was tryin to get. My mayor has the gold catalogue badge, but it would have been very helpful and quick to decorate the alts house, instead of waiting for my main to order the stuff, drop it, load my Alt and pick it up. Thank you for the offer thou! Would have been even more awesome if I had WiFi.

@Bluebellie this whole thing is actually my main motivation for making the guide I am now about selling towns. I'm tryin to be very detailed and precise about it, and include more then the basic yet already misconstrued information.

Thank you ExaLeaf and Nunnafinga for posting Epona's exterior. I need it cause in Secret, many of my animals have a woody house exterior, and the guide I was reading didn't include the WA animals. Her house looks fine for my theme, so I think I'll let her move in.

OK, I just HAD to tell you this....

I just reset last night! So I have to tell you all about it (or you can skip over my post if you don't want to hear about it, lol ).

Anyway my town was over two years old, and even though I knew I wanted to do this, it was scary! But I was lucky and got through it OK. I didn't have the catalog problem because my secondary character really didn't have much in her catalog, although my primary character had enough in hers that I wanted to keep it. Anyway, Tom Nook gave me 73,559,329 bells! That was exciting. He said I'd get 77,318,198 bells if I sold him my catalog too, but no way. I took the lump sum and kept my catalog.

I didn't like any of the first 4 possible towns Rover showed me, so I hit the "home" button and exited ungracefully, hoping for the best because I really didn't know what would happen. When I went through the whole thing with Nook again, he offered me the same amount! (whew!). Then Rover showed me 4 more possible towns. I didn't like them either! So I did it again. The last one in the third set of four was nice, so I chose that one.

Having so much fun in my new town today! I am glad I did this. I love starting a new town. Just got my mayor points a few minutes ago.

Well, it was 73,559,329 bells for the town, and 77,318,198 bells for the town plus the catalog. So I guess the catalog was only 3,758,869 bells (the difference between those two numbers), so probably a lot less than what you got.

I deleted my post because after reading it, I thought maybe it wasn't on topic since it was just a normal reset. But since you responded to it, I figured out how to bring back what I had posted from the edit history! So I learned something tonight. :)

Oh I was about to say, such a huge difference from 45 to 70somethin, considering the mayor has the gold catalogue badge.

Well you did sell the town, and this thread is a half "don't do what I did the regretsssss" and the other half a "advice thread" so it kinda does relate.

Oh good! I didn't want to mess up your thread.

I have restarted lots of times since I like to do it, but despite that I couldn't remember all the details of what you can and can't do. When the first four maps were terrible, I thought I might be throwing away 73,559,329 bells by hitting the home button like that. But those maps were so bad, it would have been worth it. LOL

I have been having such fun with my new town today. I am hoping this fun continues until AC-2019 is released.

Even more the reason I'm making a huge detailed guide (it isn't posted yet) about selling the town. I hope it's useful to others and becomes a solid piece of reference material.

This would be great! Especially interested in how to reset multiple times to get a good map ( I did like 20+ restarts....and it’s hard to tell where it went wrong). I just know that when I actually started the gameplay, I didn’t have the catalog.

I'm about halfway throu it rn, I still want to tweek the details and make sure what I typed is correct. Which isn't easy cause there isn't a solid guide out there ;)

Your resetting guide will be tremendously appreciated by ACNL fans everywhere, @Stella-Io! It's so hard to find solid information on the details.

Long ago, Tom Nook never offered to buy one's town during resetting, like he does now. Back in those days I used to sell nearly everything, first, even the flowers in my town, and all those trips to Retail to sell that stuff is a lot of work! Then I'd leave all my bells on the ground at one of my other towns before resetting.

Now that Tom Nook buys the town, I think he pays us for a lot of this stuff but I'm not sure exactly what. So, I sold all my stuff this time, too, just in case, but then I gave up and left almost 50 million bells in the bank. It turned out that I got plenty of bells from Nook so it all worked out for me. But anyway, it will be nice to get any information on what is used to compute the town's value now that we get paid for it. It will make resetting so much easier.

One time I didn't check to see if my town tree was big enough, and it wasn't, so I didn't get an offer from Tom Nook! Eeek. LOL I'll never do THAT again.

It's actually not clear in what factors go in to price out the town. My guess is time played, amount of PWPs, how developed the town plus Main Street is as a whole, and how clean the town is. I'll explain a bit more in my guide.
