Hello !

i reset my day 1 island, that i created on march 20.
i did it because there were some things i was not happy with, and figured i rather reset now, when i'm 1 month into the game and not, let's say half a year in.

i decided not to push back my date to march 20, because to me that just feels off and not fun..

i am however really bummed about not having my island on march 20... just kinda salty, considering i got the game and played it on release..

any advice on how to not let it bother me?

thanks !

I would’ve suggested moving out all of your items to a friend’s island so that you can get them back on your new one, but I guess it can’t be done if you’ve already reset :(

If I were you I’d totally change the date back to 20th March, and give my character and island the same names, so that it feels like you’re playing on the same island.

Like what you've said, you can take solace in the fact that with your newly resetted island, you do not have to worry about being bothered by your island being not what you want it to be when numerous months have already passed by and hence having to do even more work to get to where your progress was originally at if you do reset at a later time compared to now.

One month might seem long but for a game like Animal Crossing where a majority of people (probably including you) will be playing for at least 1-3 years down the line, it's not much progress that has been lost at all. You don't have to worry about lagging behind other people since we would be exposed to the same events down the line so you'll eventually reach a point where you can catch up easily after unlocking terraforming and the other things that are time-gated!

Just a warning though, I've seen people that got sucked into a vicious cycle of continuous resetting after encountering things that they weren't happy with. If it concerns terraforming, it's advisable to take a picture of the land before you do any terraforming so that you can revert back if you aren't happy with the results. But if you are completely happy with the things that cannot be changed for your new island, then that is good! Remind yourself constantly for the first few weeks that it's worth it to reset early on and after you have caught up, you'll not have to worry about this anymore :)

i see, thank you for the advice !
tell me, if it was you, would you push back the clock or just continue playing with the current date?

I think you earned the right to push the date back to the 20th since you did start playing then, however, I understand you don't want to grind a month time travelling.

For me I don't TT so I would continue playing with the current date but if you are fine with TTing then there's nothing wrong with doing it too. Do what makes you feel comfortable and more at ease with your decision.

What date you start your island on is meaningless in the grand scheme of things. No one is going to notice or care.

I'd embrace the fact that it's a totally new island - don't go back in time or recreate things from the old island, make it totally fresh.

But it's totally up to you, and whatever would make you happy!

It's much better to have an island started in April 2020 that you're happy with, than one from March 20th that you're unhappy with!
One month won't matter that much soon :giggle:

That said, if it matters so much to you, I'd probably set the clock to March 20th, play "normally", maybe skipping a day here and there so I don't have to go another whole week of tutorial, and eventually set the clock back to current time beginning of May or something. That way it's not like you skipped a whole month, but you don't have to be too much "behind".

You can still change your mind, you know. I reset and pushed the date back to March 20th because anything else would have felt off to me as well. And I don't think you'd be doing anything wrong with that, it took me like 10 days to work myself towards present day and most of the time I worked through the tutorial quest, worked my way through the fossils and money rocks just to be able to replicate some kind of progress. If you reset and rush through to current day you won't profit off of that too much. You'll only skip the annoying tutorial phase until you reach the town hall, but in exchange your friendships won't be as strong and you won't have paid of as much as you did before. To me it's a fair exchange to travel back in time to work your way to today and suffer some minor consequences because of it. And resetting gives you more control back over your island layout, especially if you already unlocked terraforming and know what you want to work with it. I did that and I don't regret it one bit, a year from now I won't even think about my troubles in the first month of the game's release.

No one can really make you not care about your island's creation date. If you do, you have to put some sort of meaning into it. A month's difference supposedly isn't going to affect much in the future. And the thing is, no one's going to know your island creation date. When you talk to people, you can talk about how you played on release date and decided to start over a month later without time traveling. At the very least without time traveling your achievements will be earned genuinely and won't be pushed back because you didn't have time for them.

i'm sorry to hear that, i had a similar experience with my first new leaf town, but after resetting it i absolutely loved the final town i created

one thing you can take away from resetting for your island is that you have some insight/knowledge as to how the game works, so you don't need to be confused as to what is unlocked within the first week or so. you're starting over fresh but you know what the beginning phase of the game needs so you could progress faster!

i do think that you could have asked someone you trust to hold onto some of the items you had though, like bells, materials, tools, furniture

best in luck in your new island though

My switch clock was March 17th when I started my island so welcome to the club! People will be resetting throughout the year anyways it won't be a huge deal! ^^

I thought of resetting to get RS to be lined up with the airport but I just can't. Getting through that drawn out tutorial to where you unlock terraforming makes me stop dead in my tracks.

Spend all of your Nook Miles on NMTs. Give them and all the bells you've earned to a trusted friend. That way you can at least get those back.

Honestly, you might feel sad about it now, but as you develop this island more and more, you will grow attached to it and the date will no longer matter :) There is a reason you reset. You wouldn't have been happy with the other one. With this one, you will be happy with in time. I promise! I reset my first town in ACNL and I was very very sad because I had already grown attached. I was very sad for a while, but I got more and more attached to the new one, and suddenly, it just didn't matter anymore. You just have to keep going and remind yourself the reason you reset was a good reason ^_^

I'm honestly thinking of resetting as well, though I'm in two minds, because there's stuff i like and also i found lucky in a island and he's one of my dreamies and i don't want to lose him :( but I'm not completely happy with loads of stuff. I know i can terraform everything, but i don't even know where to start to achieve what i want!! People's islands are amazing, and i love creating pixel art stuff, but when it comes to island creating i have no idea how to figure out what i want to do! Sigh.

I had the same sort of situation with my release date New Leaf town. I can understand attaching importance to things like a significant starting date, because I'm probably similar in that regard. I had the NL town for like a year and over time there were more and more issues that I couldn't change without a restart.

Honestly, most of these things were kind of minor and probably wouldn't have bothered a lot of people, but I'm very particular and can get rather obsessive, so they irked me to no end. Still, every time I thought I would be better off starting with a clean slate, I decided against it because I had this novelty creation date. Finally I realized that by forcing myself to play a town that I wasn't that excited about, I was making the game feel more like a chore, which was ridiculous. A novelty town means nothing in a game you're not even enjoying. So I restarted. And I didn't regret it at all. My new town didn't have the release date birthday, but I enjoyed my time there much more.

Think of it this way: if there was something in your town that bothered you so much that you restarted after a month, then even if you talked yourself down this time, it's unlikely that you would have just stopped being bothered by whatever the issue was. Restarting might have been an inevitability, you just got it out of the way early. I talked myself out of restarting my town for ages, but in the end I still did it and I had more fun as a result.

I agree with the poster who said to be careful not to get caught in a restart loop, but maybe now that you've played the game a little while, you have some ideas about what works for you and what doesn't that you didn't have when you first started you town. I hope this time around you're able to find one you love and that you enjoy your time there:)

yeah, i'm a lot like that, too.
what about the nook mile badges where there's also date attach to them? would you do the ones that feels un-natural to do on your first day (like popping the baloon into the water which can technically be done on the first day, but i doubt you would have done it on your first day unless you knew this badge existed).

I held on to the same philosophy as you. I had a file I started on March 20, and after about 15 days, I had started to discover certain aspects of the island that I really wasn't too fond of. I knew if I left things as it was, I'd just be more and more inclined to restart, so I'd rather do it sooner than later when it would be even more painful. I also didn't turn my clock back to the 20th.

I'm almost 10 days into my new file (I think), and I am so glad I did it. Everything has been going so much better for me in this file, including getting the most amazing map I could hope for.

The best thing I can say to help you with this decision is to remember the reason you restarted in the first place, and move forward with the determination to enjoy your island adventures even more than before!

what do you say about the achievments? now that you are more aware of them, would you get them early on even if it feels unnatural doing so? (see my previous post here)
