So I opened my game and for some reason, the time had reset to 12:00 AM on January 1st, 1012. I didn't change the time on my 3Ds or in game, so I was really surprised, It made me really mad too, since it caused all my turnips to spoil, one of my villagers to move out, and some of my flowers to wilt. Can anyone tell me why this happened and how to avoid this in the future?

Do you use the pedometer on your 3DS? I'm assuming that will have reset as well. Since it's the 3DS clock that reset and not individual games, it's a console issue. Most likely this stems from the battery, since replacing or removing it in any fashion resets the internal clock. Have you bumped your 3DS roughly? Noticed any recent changes in charge duration? Most cases seem start off as an intermittent problem that becomes more common.

How long have you had your 3DS for? I'd be checking into how long you have left on a warranty. If you're still in that time frame, the store you bought it from may be able to issue a replacement. Otherwise, you might contact Nintendo. The problem with issues of random nature is that even if you were to send the 3DS in, the problem may never happen while it's being tested.

I'm sorry this is happening to you. Good luck on your chosen solution!

EDIT: Don't be surprised if this thread is moved to another more appropriate forum.

My 3Ds was recently jostled quite a bit, so that could be the cause. My 3Ds is about 3 years old now. My pedometer hasn't actually reset, but the battery life does seem a little shorter than it did a while ago. I think I'll just be more careful with my 3Ds. Thanks for the helpful information!
