I'm not sure if this is the right board for this- but hey.

So I'm trying to complete a villager trade by getting one of villagers into boxes. I never thought I'd have problems getting a villager into boxes.

I tried the regular time travel of two days forward, two days back- over and over, but no dice. I tried three days, four days, ect- and all I got out of it was two villagers moving out without so much as a by-your-leave. I tried talking to villagers while TT, and not talking to the one I want out.

Yeah I have no idea what to do here. Please and thank you for any and all advice!

I'd really appreciate some help- I'm trying to trade for my dreamie.

Getting a specific villager out is really just all about luck. In my experience though, the higher the friendship you have with a villager, the more likely they will be the one to ping. I've had to TT years at times (in 5 day chunks) to get a certain villager out, so don't get discouraged and just power through.

Wow- here's to hoping I don't have to TT years!

My fear is that if I TT too much, I lose more villagers that I want to keep.

This is what I do, because I usually have more villagers I'm keeping versus ones I'm willing to let go:

Run around and talk to everyone, checking for villager rumors and making sure you're on speaking terms. If no one is moving (and no rumors), TT 5 days. Run around and wait for someone to ping (95% of the time they will. If you check with everyone and no one moves, go one more day til you get someone). If you want to keep them, deny them moving and save and quit. Open the game up on the same day, make sure you are on speaking terms with everyone, then save, quit, reopen and TT 5 more days. Go around checking for pings, and either accept or deny them. Keep rinsing and repeating until you get the villager(s) you want.

I guess I'm just scared all my villagers will leave except the one I want? I just TT three days, only to find one villager gone and a new house plot.

Staying on speaking terms and making a point of finding and talking to EVERYONE is key to keeping your favorite villagers. Are you familiar with keeping track of the rumors, as well? That's a big help in trying to determine who might be going.

Okay, I just make sure to talk to the villagers I want to keep each time I TT? And I think I'm familiar with rumors? The villagers will tell me that another villager might be thinking of moving?

Yep, because if you make sure to talk to them and stay on speaking terms, then they likely won't move without you being able to stop them first. And yes, villager rumors can let you know if a specific villager is moving, or that no one is moving, depending on what they say. Each personality will have a different way of 'telling' you.

Here's a post on the forum about rumors: http://www.belltreeforums.com/showthread.php?145364-Villager-Moving-Rumors-(guide)

Also a thread here on moving villagers, and under the spoiler "Other similar methods", Zulehan has a method quoted that also works great for trying to keep specific villagers: http://www.belltreeforums.com/showthread.php?152911-Foolproof-Cycling-Method

Thank you so much for your help! I got the villager I wanted in boxes and didn't lose anyone I wanted to keep!!!
