I need help understanding how trading villagers works

Sorry if I'm doing any of this wrong, I've never done a forum post or thread before. Me and a friend have New Horizons and they have a villager I want but my town is full. I'm willing to do time travelling and they won't. How do I get their villager? Thank you!

i wouldn't recommend time traveling to get someone out until their villager moves out. when your friends villager goes into boxes you can time travel and kick someone you don't like out... here's a guide.
