I finally got NH a few days ago! Is there any good advice I should know or any tips/ideas I should consider putting on my island??
Edit - I've been playing the AC games since 2007 - I'm not new NEW! I mainly mean hidden things most people won't realise or things I should try and focus on, if that makes more sense?!

Press B to run. Double press A while crafting to speed it up. I tell these to everyone because it is sometimes new even to people who have been playing for several weeks :p

The other advice is just take it slow. Don't time travel too much, or try to get everything done at once or you might burn yourself out relatively fast!

You can't change/move where resident services is, so make sure you choose an island with a good spot for the town hall!

Also, the color of your airport will determine the color of certain items (nook miles tickets items). I would recommend looking that up too because you need to trade in order to get different color variations like streetlights.

Plan out where houses/neighborhoods will be as well once you can terraform.

I like cottagecore/woodsy islands a lot:)

I’d say early on the most important thing is gathering materials. Be sure to hit all your rocks with a shovel each day and chop trees to gather wood.

only eat fruit if you wanna destroy rocks! i recommend keeping all your rocks in the beginning so you can harvest materials from them every day

DEFINITELY take a look at where the resident services building is in relation to the airport dock, i didn't think it would be too big of a deal for mine to be close to each other and just one square off, but it's the bane of my existence LOL.

it costs 50,000 to move buildings, so plan things out carefully (!!) and dig holes to make sure things are aligned. if you want to move a house one square back, you'll have to pay once to move it somewhere else and then pay again to move it back.

People have said this and I think it is the most important thing... Choose RS location, peninsula size (map), island/caracter names very carefully. They are some of the only things you can't change later.
Plan your island, but take it slow!

Thank you! This is great advice ^^ I'll definitely make sure to plan things out carefully.

If you play online with your friends, chances are they might replace one of your able sisters custom designs with something else. Be warned if you like and want to keep your custom designs you placed, or heck even the defaults.
Also, you get terraforming at 3 stars, and if you see a glowing spot plant 10,000 bells in it. As you've been playing since 2007, i bet you know what will happen. A MONEY TREE!

Actually i've been using fruit to move trees. Did you know you can do that? Also, i think rocks respawn in another location in this game.
Yes! I love that they added the rock feature! I had so many rocks in annoying places in NL.

There is never enough wood. Make sure to keep smashing your trees for regular wood!
You'll be needing it later when you are making your perfect island.

Also another addition which came up.
Don't sell your spare DIYs to the store, you can trade them or sell them to players for way more.

Don't build all the new plots at once, unless you're okay with random selection.
And this is the golden tip here. It's a long progress to make villagers out of your town.. It can only occur every 15 days if you let one move out. So make sure to hunt for villagers you want to move in.

A lot of things have been mentioned already, so... 🤔
If you want to gather wood, use a stone axe. The "actual" axe will cut a tree down.

There is a lot of good advice here already. I don't know if you know, but you can only find 1 colour of each item in the store. You can get other colours from villagers, from shaking trees, from Wisp and from Redd whenever you unlock him. Also by trading with others of course.

If you have any controllers with turbo buttons, they are really good for shaking trees, hitting rocks, wishing on stars during meteor showers, etc. If you only have joycons, I would suggest looking at alternatives early. The drift seems exceptionally bad in AC

Do not compare your island to the island of others. You are making your island for yourself. It's not bad to take inspiration from others, but it is possible to get too caught up into it.

You can only get 4 fruits from your own island as far as I know. 1 native fruit, 1 sister fruit, the fruit you get from your mother and coconuts. For the other 2 you will have to trade. I don't know if you can get them in any other way

Gold ore is really rare. I really recommend not selling any. They are used to make various items including gold tools. Gold tools also break, so it is generally not worth making them

Go to the terminal every day in the resident services for some free nook miles. You don't have to keep doing that if you have a lot of them, but it is good to do in the beginning. When you unlock nook miles + tasks, try to do at least the ones that give extra nook miles as well. Nook miles can be used to get tickets to find villagers on islands, and they can also be used for some exclusive items.

This is more of a personal opinion, but I don't think it is a good idea to get too deep into the stalk market. You can get millions of bells easily that way, but I think that takes the fun out of the game. If you wanna do turnips, try to stick to your own island, or only buy a limited amount, so you don't suddenly end up with so much bells you don't know what to do with.

I can't think of much more, but I hope this was helpful
