Since that’s a river fish, I was pretty surprised. I had a free-standing waterfall (not connected to any other water source) going into it and apparently that turned it into a river?? I took away the waterfall and am now catching pond fish in it. This would explain why I couldn’t catch the killifish in August. I finally had to go to a friend’s island to get it.

Oh that's interesting! I actually never realised that there was a difference between pond fish and river fish :0

Yah, any waterfall makes it a river, I believe. It's... weird. I'm fortunate to have not had any issues with my ponds not being ponds so far (incidentally, having a bridge DOES NOT make it a river- I have a pond with a bridge and I still catch pond fish in it)

Congrats on the arapaima, at least!

Yep, they're COMPLETELY different fish. Like ocean vs. river.
This game also has some fish that can be caught on the highest tier cliffs, and some can be caught only at rivermouths (where the river meets the ocean)

Yep, two of the fish that are only available this month, the salmon and the king salmon, are rivermouth fish. I had missed having rivermouth fish, seems like it's been a while since we've had any, new or not, available

Yep, when you add a waterfall it's no longer a pond.

That's why you caught an arapaima. (My favorite fish in RL) :)
