Hiya fellas! I've just been curious about this. I've played the other AC games so I'm well aware of the idea of having a favorite fruit in the game and wanting to start with a certain native fruit, but I've never actually felt that favoritism myself. In every game I've played, I was happy with whatever fruit I got and never reset from what I was given. But I know not everyone plays that way and some want a certain type of fruit at the beginning to enjoy the rest of their game.

I didn't question it back then, because it was harder to trade for fruits, and you were stuck with your native one for a long time until mom sent you an exotic fruit in the mail. It made sense to restart until you were happy. However, with New Horizons, I've heard stories of people resetting over and over again for hours or even days in attempts to get their airport the right color, have the native fruit they want, etc...etc... I understand wanting certain colors and positions of things (like the peninsula), because you can't change that later, but I just don't quite understand the fruit part.

The online community is booming in New Horizons. Enough so, that people are willing to give you stacks of each fruit for no charge at all. So it's fairly easy to get what fruit you want. This of course, doesn't pertain to those with no online access. It would make sense for them if they had no plans to trade and just wanted a certain fruit without having to get it.
However, for those with online AC access and are able to trade. Would you say there's a big difference between having a certain fruit at the get go vs planting enough trees on your island that it looks like it's native? Why or why not?

For example, in my case...I've enjoyed putting tons of peach trees on my upper cliffs in my island because I think they look pretty up there, but they aren't my native fruit. However, I have so many of them (way more than i do pears which are my native fruit) that they might as well be considered "native" to my island. And what's nice about that, is that I still get to sell them for the price of an exotic fruit. If anything, it kinda seems like the best way to go with getting fruits, eh? When you start your game, get anything except your favorite fruit, trade for your favorite fruit online, replace all your trees with that fruit, then bingo! :D It's perfect! And you don't have to restart your game!

But eh, what do I know? Am I crazy for thinking this? Let me know! What's your favorite fruit? How did your native fruit journey go when you started the game? Did you reset a bunch of times to get what you want or did you just roll with what you have? I'm just curious to hear what you guys think 😄

When I started I knew I didn’t want cherries because I had cherries for 6+ years in my New Leaf town. So my first island had cherries... and that was the only time I reset.
As for favorites, I love how peaches look, as well as the apples. I think all the fruits look great together though!

That makes sense! I've had a different fruit for each AC game I've had, so I totally get wanting something different to feel like it's a different town than your old one. And I agree! I have all the fruit trees mixed together all over the 1st floor of my island. Their colors really compliment each other!

I’ve had peaches as my first fruit on accident in CF and NL. I had to reset for them on NH (that and the blue airport)! I’m really hoping we get perfect fruit now because perfect peaches are the best.

But then you miss out on the privilege of Wilbur calling your island Peachtown whenever you head back home and it looks nice stamped on your passport.

Yeah, it would be interesting to see if they bring perfect fruit back. Ooh, what if they come with DIY recipes for them too? Haha that would be cool

I would say NOT to go for your favorite fruit as your native fruit, my reasoning for this is that whatever your native fruit is, it won't sell at a high price at nook's... especially if you're starting out. I was incredibly lucky for peaches to be my sister fruit so I replaced all my orange trees with peach trees and I was able to payoff my loans without having to participate in the stalk market. But at the end of the day, it's relatively easy to get access to all fruits so... I don't know what the big deal about the fruits is.

I suppose you're right! That kind of little stuff doesn't matter much to me, but I can understand people enjoying it!

I mean, I might care more if there were perfect fruits in this game... and I think there's a good chance they'll be added at some point. Also, your native fruit is included on your passport, so some people might like a certain fruit on that. I know I had a preference for apples or peaches as my first fruits (note- this was early on LONG before I connected with the online community, and without connecting with other people in this game, I think most exotic fruits are literally impossible to get) but if I found a layout I loved, I was willing to make exceptions. But I wanted those fruits because a. I like the way they look (especially apples- IDK why, but I like apple related stuff a lot) and b. they're my favorite fruits IRL. Though I actually like the taste of all the different fruits IRL, with the exception of cherries. I like cherry flavoring, just not actual cherries 😝

Anyway, I got lucky and got peaches on the island whose I loved, and the "sister" fruit that my "mom" sent ended up being apples 😁 It wasn't until a few months into the game that I connected with my BFF in-game and she gave me the other kinds of fruit I was missing. And it wasn't until after that that I came here and started connecting with other people online.

Exactly! That's what I was saying as well. I guess it just depends on what people enjoy about the fruits. There's some novelty about having it as your native fruit, but if you don't care about that then there's no worry

Yea I know... but I don’t really use fruit regardless (turnips and creatures are my cash crops). I also get a peach stamped on my passport, so that’s worth more than what I’d get from shaking trees. Also, if perfect fruit does become available if it’s like NL your native will be the ONLY fruit that can make perfect trees (planting nonnative perfect fruits just bears a normal fruit tree).

For me, it's not like I look at my passport all the time... I don't think other player can look at my passport either, so this aesthetic reason is no big deal for me, but if it's something you really want then that's ok! I never played NL so I didn't know about "perfect" fruits but I don't mind it being oranges... even if I don't know what this whole 'perfectness' entails lol

I can see how others like that! In my case, Perfect fruit never interested me in NL, but if people really want to profit from that, then keeping their town full of their fav native fruit from the get go makes sense.

I agree. I didn't have much preference about which fruit was my native fruit, except I was hoping for something different this time (on NL it was peaches). I reset once to get a blue airport and non-ugly villagers. Haha.
It ended up being cherries, which is fine. I currently have an orchard with different non-native fruits and I have orange trees near my residential area, but I probably won't keep many cherry trees.
I stopped shaking my trees when I got rich from the stalk market so they're pretty much just decoration now anyway!

Yeah! I'm in the same boat. Most of my trees are just decorative now. I'll shake some to sell when I'm short on pocket change or give them to my neighbors for fun, but other than that they just look pretty! Haha

Cherries are my favorites because i had them so long in new leaf so when my first island had cherries as well i was thrilled!

However, if i hadn't gotten them, i just would've done as your post states.

I decorate parts of my town with certain fruit trees for an aesthetic appeal. Around my marketplace I have red/white/yellow flowers and I liked it with red hibiscus bushes and apple/cherry trees. Same goes for other areas. I did that a lot in NL as well.

Sometimes I actually forget what my native fruit is lol

I’ve always liked apples the best and made sure they were my native in NH. I think the reason I cared about it was because I played NL, and in NL perfect fruit was a thing, so if you wanted to grow perfect apples, they had to be your native. In NH, you could totally just chop all of your native fruit trees and replace them if you wanted to, so it doesn’t really matter now.

I would never reset to change my fruit... And I only started playing online later on.
