Okay so I've fallen extremely behind in my game due to uni/work and such...So I'm currently on January 3rd, 2014. I don't know if I should just skip forward to today's date because I'm sooo sick of being behind, will I miss a lot of good stuff if I do that? What I've been doing is skipping forward 3/4 days every time I play, and get through about a week or two every time but it's still taking forever....advice?
There'd be a lot of things that you'd miss if you skip to today's date. Bunny day, weeding day, april fools to name but a few - and there's a chance that one of your villagers would end up in boxes. Ultimately the decision is yours, but I personally would not. Think of it as an opportunity to collect a lot of fossils, perfect fruit and complete your encyclopedia.
I'd probably keep doing what you're doing; play every few days to catch up on fossils and such and then skip to the next. It's gonna feel tedious (trust me I had to do the same thing) but that way you won't miss out on most things and you'll be caught up after a few days.
If you don't care about losing villagers, just jump to current date. Yeah you'll miss some holidays, but they come around again. If its all super stressful, just restart the town fresh. Your other option is TT day by day and that takes a long time. I've done it. It was worth it because I didn't want to lose specific villagers.
There is a method that doesn't need TTing day by day for 7 in-game months, or risking any of your villagers. This may seem surprising, but the process is very simple.
1. Start up your game.
2. Use the safety net method to check for movers (there'll be a rumor, they'll say "So I heard blah blah blah was considering moving out...").
3. If you don't have a mover, TT to the next day. If you have a mover, skip to step 5
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until you get a mover.
5. So you've found that someone's moving. Save and quit.
6. Restart your game, and run/walk immediately after you start to the villager's house.
7. Very likely, they'll be outside, and ping. Stop them from moving.
8. Save and quit, and TT to present day. No villagers lost. Only thing you'll have missed out on is holidays. Your town will be mostly preserved except that flowers will die (beautiful ordinance will stop this, however), and you will have bedhead.
