So I gave my sister, my old Switch sadly that meant I had to delete my town Warren.
Now it’s time to start from scratch! At least this time I can get an island I really want.
Any tips on choosing a new island layout? Do you recommend southern river mouths or no? Is the green airport the worst color or should I shoot for blue?
What would you have done differently when choosing your island layout that you didn’t last time?
I've got two southern exits, and I love them. I was shooting for symmetry, and that was the only way. I wouldn't recommend a blue airport, the Nook Miles items selection is the worst (IMHO).
I chose Aviary for the name! Aerie reminds me of the clothing brand & Roost is reserved in my mind for Brewster
I personally don’t like the double south rivers as it seems a bit limiting for river layouts, but I don’t think it’s a dealbreaker. I think the number one thing to look for is resident services location. Do you want it far from your airport? Does it matter if it’s centered? Do you want it off to the side?

I don’t mind my layout but if I could redo it, I’d choose one that had a further resident services area! Mine is not that far and limits some things

My New Leaf town was Roost, I thought I was clever until I unlocked Brewsters lol.
I still like that name though maybe that’s just my nostalgia talking,
As for myself, I really like my double south rivers! But I'm a big fan of symmetry, so having both south mouth rivers was a dream come true to me, haha.
My airport is blue, and I like it! I think green is also a great color as well. I'd recommend using the information from the above poster (Aurita) to choose a color!
As for something I'd change? Probably nothing really! If I had to get really specific I may have looked at where the pier was? But make sure you check where the resident services building is too!
As the proud owner of a double south river mouth island I would suggest it! There are some mild gripes I have but that mostly comes from my theming (the pier is kinda odd with my feral untouched theme),not with the layout itself.
I’d definitely weigh the airport between what color you like and the items it gives. I chose orange for Evwirt because it fits the theming even though I’m not a fan of a lot of the orange catalog. There’s always the trading boards if ya need a different color, after all!
I found "Aviary" to be the most interesting (and doesn't remind me of a clothing retailer XD).
I have double-south river mouths. My island is generally symmetric, and I like that. If I could change anything about my layout (if even -- I've moved on now), I would consider a layout with Resident Services farther from the Airport and centered with respect to the Airport.
I have a blue Airport -- I don't mind my Nook Mile variants as trading on the forums is fun. If you don't want to bother with trading, though, I might take Airport colour into consideration, based on the infographic that Aurita shared.

I like Rookery. If you have room, I'd probably add "the" in front, but that's just me.
My island has the 2 southern rivers and I haven't had problems with it. My areas between the rivers and beaches on the sides of the island are a little more narrow, but I was able to do plenty with them. Resident Services is situated a full building to the right of my airport (green, and I'm happy with my NM choices), but I put Nooks Cranny in front of the airport, which works nicely. I think you can do a lot of different things with the entrance, especially since you know the mechanics now.

Thanks for all the feedback fellas. I decided to meet Aerie and Aviary half way and go for Aery, which is just a older spelling of Aerie. Thanks for everyone’s help and best wishes!
