I feel like I'm missing out on online playing

I understand where you're coming from. But I also feel like it's best to take things at your own place and don't put too much stock into what other people are doing.

For the most part, outside of DIY recipes, fruit and flowers are cosmetic. Your in game mom will send you an alternate fruit, so you can plant them and farm them for bells. There's also a chance you can find a different fruit from your native fruit on a Nook Miles Island.

Almost everything I have done on my island so far has been *mostly without outside help and without TTing and I'm honestly extremely happy with how my island is turning out.

* I've gotten apples and oranges and a few flowers from other people, but not many and overall, I feel like this is minor thing.

Other have said Animal Crossing as a marathon, not a sprint and I agree, as far as my playing style is concerned. I would personally rather be surprised by finding new things on my own than I would worrying about everyone else's progress.

I don't think you're missing too much. So far I've only used online features with one single friend and it wasn't for too much. The things we traded each other were things that we could have gotten ourselves without trading anyway. I think for me, I just didn't know that there was an online subscription for the Switch before I bought one, so I was actually incredibly pissed off to find that out after I'd already started playing some games and such for a few days.

I do agree with you by this game encourages and relies on online play to get certain items and stuff. The only downside is that online now costs money which means that players have to pay an extra $20 to be able to get certain things.

Same. I want to get my amiibo card villager in the game, but he asks for a recipe that requires a flower that's not available to me.

Can you use the Nintendo Online free trial? I am sure that people would be happy to gift you the flowers that you need.

Yeah, but I already used it for when Pokémon Sword/Shield came out. 😅 But I'm sure flowers will cycle with seasons (or maybe with the Earty Day update already?), I was just annoyed because of this road block. But, it turns out that amiibos change their request when you invite another amiibo in (even when their DIY request is impossible as well!), so that went better than expected.

But I assume many Switch owners don't even know about the free trial that you can instantly cancel. Maybe someone should make a PSA thread about it, if there isn't one already.

Can I ask how you get a free trial? Is it for people who bought the game digitally only?

The only thing Nintendo has gotten me mad with is the fact they are restricting parts of the game behind a Nintendo Online paywall. I spent $60 on a kid's video game, I should have access to QR codes and all the flowers. People who say it's only $20 are missing the point- I shouldn't have to pay anything!!

The digital version comes with free months, but the Switch itself also allows you to test the membership for 30 7 days. You can activate it through the eShop, you should also go ahead and cancel it right away because otherwise it would turn into a paid membership iirc.

Edit: Edited for misinformation.

Anyone with a Switch can get one free trial. This article is for the UK, but other countries can't be much different: https://www.nintendo.co.uk/Support/...intendo-Switch-Online-Free-Trial-1434315.html.

With New Horizons, many features and things have been implemented that would seem impossible to me in New Leaf like trading fish and bugs.

I'm not sure where you heard so, but this is not a thing in NH.

I get it, I felt like I was missing out too, so I caved and got nintendo switch online, i wasn't happy about it. But again if I weren't trading and stuff on sites like this I would not bother, I only use it for the trading.

Didn't know this was a thing. I just assumed it was only for people who had a digital copy of the game. It's a little shady it automatically turns into a subscription, but I'll take what I can get.

Most subscription work that way to trick you, but you can safely cancel it right away. You can also add PayPal as your payment plan and unlink it after you started and canceled your trial for extra security.
