I'm to lazy to make this thread fancy dancy, but how do people check their IV statuses on the 6th generation? (Pok?mon x & y)
I know that you could check them by going to this guy in Kiloude City.

My questions.
How do you breed good IV's?
What does IV actually mean? <- (All I know that it stands for individual values.)
How long does it take to breed one?
How do you know what IV Status you have?
Does this method include Dittos, different region Pok?mon's?

I know there are 1-6 IV's.
I'm brand new to this Pok?mon thing, but I'd like to know what these are.
I also think that when people mean by competitive they mean by good IV Statuses?

I apologize if this thread is not understandable. ><;
My brain can never function right when I'm confused @-@

It'd be a great help if someone can help me. :>

どうもありがとうございました <- Thank you very much.

The very basic rundown of IVs is that they are a number ranging from 0-31 in each stat (HP, Defense, Special Attack, etc). They're assigned randomly in wild Pokemon but can be manipulated through breeding. The higher a stat's IV, the higher than stat can potentially be at Level 100. Example: At level 100, a Charizard's Sp. Attack stat would be around 200 with a *Nature* that lowers Sp. Attack, no EVs, and 0 IV in Sp. Atk. At level 100, that's not so great. But with a nature that ups Sp. Attack, Max EVs, and 31 IVs in Sp. Attack, his SP. Attack stat could be as high as 348. That's an excellent stat able to knock out many foes in one hit. Individual Values (IVs) are essentially a given stat's measured potential. 0 is a big hindrance, 31 means that stat can reach it's highest potential.
*(Nature's are just personalities that Pokemon are assigned upon hatching from an egg or being caught. These personality traits may increase one stat while lowering another, or have no affect at all depending on which personality is present)*

IV refers to those numbers (0-31) assigned to each stat.

IV breeding is a rather long process. Generally it can take a few days to 1-2 weeks or longer to breed a Pokemon with 5-6 Perfect IVs (IVs of 31). It depends how high your starting breeding pair's IVs are.

I've only bothered with IVs in X/Y so far so I'll tell you what I know about checking those only. There's a trainer inside the Kiloude City Pokemon Center (he's on the left side) who will tell you your Pokemon's IVs, but unfortunately it's a vague system.
http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Stats_judge Gen 6 uses the first chart there, on the right side of the page under "Gen VI".

Competetive players generally have Pokemon with 4-6 Perfect IVs (of 31), If they have less than all 6, their Pokemon will have perfect IVs in whatever stats are most necessary for the given Pokemon. IE: A Charizard will be IVed (Perfect IV 31) in Speed and Special Attack, if nothing else. Goodra in Speed/Sp. Attack and Sp. Defense. Greninja in Speed and Sp. Attack. Generally whatever the Pokemon specializes in, stat-wise.
It's not as complicated as it sounds, though that may seem crazy but it looks really complicated.

I hope that helps, even though it's kind of a word wall. Bulbapedia and Smogon are good places to check for more information.
