So I kinda don't really have any dreamies. The only one I totally want is Lyman, who left a while back and left a totally ripped koala-shaped hole in my heart, but apart from that I just don't have any. And my thread about Chaddar really made me think about it.

As such I don't know who I want to move in. I have nine villagers currently, being:

Olivia the Cat
Lobo the Wolf
Elmer the Horse
Ed the Horse
Anciotti the Mouse
Rocket the Gorilla
Camofrog the Frog
Maple the Bear
Pierce the Eagle

I'd like either Ed or Elmer to move out, and one day for Lyman to come back, but seeing I've only had two move in since he left that's neither here nor there and a long while away.

In any case, I'm looking for something a little different, both in personality and in what they are. That being the case, can anyone suggest their dreamies and why that is? I'm listening out for any compelling arguments to put forward. So tell me who I should be on the lookout for!

Most of my dreamies are villagers that moved in who I ended up really liking, so I guess I'm similar to u in that way.

I don't have much dreamies to be honest. The only ones I have are pretty much Peanut & Celia.

I just put random villagers when I request a signature hehe

Do you feel like you have to have dreamies? I have never had any 'dreamies' because it's just stupid; a perfect town with all of the perfect villagers you like? Nah, that'd get boring. I just go with the villagers I get and if I like them, they can stay and if I don't, I move them out. There's nothing wrong with not having any dreamies, the best way to get villagers you like is checking the campsite everyday and move the ones you don't like out; eventually you should like all of your villagers. ;)

i have villagers i want, so i label them dreamies. my "dreamies" will probably not stay forever, though, because i want to try out different villagers and i think it gets boring if i have the same villagers for too long

That's basically how I find my dreamies. Here's a list for proof:
Static: Bought him here. When I was younger,my sister and i had him in WW... we cried when he moved away. We liked him so much :-(
Molly: Starter, ended up liking her
Felicity: think I got her from a campsite, but shes really awesome
Stinky, Grizzly, Nate: all three were starters (nate) or I got them by chance
Whitney: randomly got her
Marshal: from an auction here, no one was bidding so I decided to buy him. I ended up liking him tho.
So.. yeh.

I have a lot of villagers that I absolutely love, but I wouldn't say they are dreamies. They are just villagers that I don't want to be out after they have moved into my town. The only villager that I actively seeked out was Fauna. She was an original in my first town but due to a break in playing for 3 months I lost her. When I reset my town I really wanted her again and seeked her out. All the other non-movers in my town are villagers that I just fallen in love with as I've lived with them :) I have Flurry, who is a moving marshmallow of cuteness. Peanut who is a pink peppy blur of energy. Frita who makes me hungry with all that yummy french fry. Coco in her adorable self, I think she looks more like a bunnyshaped cookiedough than anything. Lucky who is covered in bandages and I feel like I should always carry bandaids around, just in case. Chief my grumpy wolf that keeps us all in check. Purrl the calico who is just so amazing. Curly, the reminder that I need to go to the gym! It's important to exercise! And then lastly I have Mira who I am thinking of letting go, because she and I just don't click like I had hoped we would when she moved in. None were 'dreamies' when I met them, but they have grown into gorgeous friendships :D

While I think it's cool not to have dreamies, or a stable villager roster at all, I'm going to argue that it's pretty fun, and there's a satisfying feeling of knowing where everyone is for working on your town and junk... And for having villagers who you really enjoy seeing and talking to, day after day.

Here's about what I did: With a few exceptions (Hazel and Baabara, who moved in naturally and I grew to love, and Julian, who I wanted from the start because I freaking love unicorns), I went through the villager lists at the animal crossing wiki, by personality (because getting a good mix of personalities was important to me), and just took a look at everyone. Who made me happy to see them? Who made me smile? I mean, that's the important thing, if you're happy.
And from that, I had a couple of villagers of each personality (besides the ones I already had filled, like Smug, Uchi, and Snooty) that I'd really like in my town, and I figured I'd roll with whoever I could find.

If it turned out I needed to, I let people who never grabbed me like I thought I would go. And I lost some, too, through error and them just not warning my in general. And I found other villagers who made me smile to fill up my town again and make me feel better. It's important to remember that the chief goal in making a villager list is your happiness, so if things don't work, be ready to adjust.
I'll probably actually list who I like and why, for recommendations purposes, but right now, my mouse is having a highlight/delete seizure, so it's best if I just stop for a bit.

its good u dont have any dreamies. believe me, this whole dream villagers thing is actually the main source of stress in the game (at least for me) when there's supposed to be none. if you do, you'd have a hard time searching for them or do a hell ton of cycling if you decide to get a 2nd copy. but then again, there's nothing compared to the feeling when u got your town full of dreamies!

I get your point, but do you really NEED those villagers in your town - for example when you reset? Would you try to get the exact same villager set again because you liked them? Because I wouldn't. Maybe with an exception for one or two (like I had with Deirdre in my previous town) but still, it's more like 'it would be nice to have them in my town again' than 'I would do anything to get them because I need them'.
I'm not going to deny that everybody has preferences, but I just don't think that deciding who is going to live in your town is a fun way to play the game. In the end everyone has a villager set they like, just like you. And that's fine. My definition of dreamies is not 'the villagers you like that live in your town', but villagers you decide beforehand that have to live in your town. And those dreamies are the ones I find stupid. I just wouldn't classify your dreamies as those dreamies.

Great example of what I am trying to say! Nice to see someone who thinks the same about this as me, this is exactly how I end up with my villagers.

And also with dreamies, you may like how they look, but sometimes they can still disappoint you.
A few days ago Roald moved to my town: his house was a bit on my path, but it was easy to work around. I was happy to see he moved moved in, since there could be so many villagers I didn't like. I liked how he looked and was glad to get a penguin, so yay for me. But a bit later, when I got to know him, he seemed very sporty (apparently he's a jock) and I didn't think he matched that personality at all. I imagined him as a lazy, a personality I love, but I was a bit disappointed that he's a jock. I don't like that personality a lot anyway, so when I do have a jock he should be sporty looking at least. And you know, penguins aren't very sporty looking. :P So now I actually don't like him a lot and I will be moving him out eventually, but I like him the most of all the ones that are going to move so he'll get to stay a bit longer.
Another thing is that Fang moved in today. I have no idea what to think of that... He's very popular and he's a cranky, and I think he'll be a great villager to have in my town. But the fact that he is so popular bugs me. I don't want to be that typical person with their 'tier one' dreamies. Ugh. I'll see what I think of him, but one thing is sure: if he moves out, I'm not going to sell him for millions. Probably just for free for the first person who responds... xD

I wouldn't try to get them again (with the exception of a few) but I thought that dreamies were villagers you really wanted or liked. I wouldn't go through all sorts of trading again just to get the same villagers, then there's no point to resetting XD But I toatally agree.... one time I did a google + poll in an animal crossing community called "how do you find your dreamies" and basically I went on a rant about how I can't stand people who try to get popular villagers just because they are popular, and that I think that its better to give your villagers a chance. I mean I've had ugly villagers who turned out to be really sweet and kind, so why would I hate them? But anyways... the poll options were:
I like populars
Idc, I take anything
Same as the guy who posted this
a mix of popular and other villagers
and then there was a "looks" option. Sad thing is, most people said they liked villagers based off of looks and popularity... sad, huh?

Well, I thought dreamies are like a short name for dream villagers; the villagers that you dream of having.
I agree that it's stupid to take villagers just based off of looks and popularity, I experienced that looks don't say anything with Roald recently. A lot of people like the cute looking villagers mostly, but I think cranky looking villagers also have their charm, the same goes with a lot of villagers that just look different than the ordinary cute villager; I think a lot of those are very nice villagers anyway.

I don't think it's sad that most people chose their dreamies based on looks. Looks is part of why one prefers one villager over another. Otherwise there wouldn't be so many villagers to choose from. Take Coco and Flurry for example. Both of them are normal, one is more often described as a marshmallow of cute and the other is describe as a horrible hollow bunny. Some people prefer the cool look Coco has while others want the cuteness of Flurry. Forcing someone who is scared of Coco to live her in their town would be just mean. Everyone want to enjoy talking to their villagers, and if they are scary looking they might not have the guts to talk to them. While others thrive on the scary of some of the villagers and feeling a little sick by cuteness. Isn't it great that there is so much variety we can all find the looks that suits us?

Choosing a dreamie because they are popular though, that one goes beyond me. Why would you seek out a villager that everyone else has? Unless it's a 'wanna check what all the fuss is about'-thing, which I could understand.

Yeah thats how I got marshal. That, and someone held an auction for it with no one bidding. But I did end up liking him though.

I agree, Cranky is my favorite personality. (see my tagline on the sidebar)

On the OP's actual question, I do have a few recommendations of villagers and why I like them... And I think I'll stick mainly to some of my less common favorites, because I figure you've already seen the more common ones, and if those don't put mud on your turtle, you wouldn't want to hear it again.

Walker: I don't know why, but I feel this one might speak to a Lyman fan's sensibilities (I don't know what yours are exactly, but I'm trying to look at what you like and think about that appeal) more than anything I have in my exact town. I've always liked him because he's got that simple, open expression...And that, given a black-and-white shirt, he'd look like on old black-and-white cartoon character, and that's an aesthetic I dig. If I had an empty spot, I might put him in my town.

Papi: And now one from my town, I just adore his big, sort of cartoony eyes (super expressive on the animations -- they change shape a bunch), a lazy personality's never amiss (though it's not my favorite)...And the fact that he's modelled after an Okapi. I love villagers with unusual animal designs, I love villagers with designs with a specific referential or story sense to it, I love Papi to death. 10/10.

Hazel: She's a bit of an unexpected villager, but I think that combo of an unconventional appearance and a slightly aggressive, but ultimately self-confident, personality really works for me. I feel like she uses her unibrow as a weapon against the world, ha ha... And anyway, hard to go wrong with a squirrel (Hard to go wrong at all really, but shh).

Flurry: She's a great villager, the sweetness of her cute little white face with her blue little eyebrows (just strange enough that I really enjoy them) serving as a really good counterpoint to her very sweet personality. Also, as a hamster, she does not clear some of the taller flowers, that that's totes adorbs.

Jacques: Not one from my town, but a friend had him and I just adore his design so much. He's a hipster, sort of northwest or northeast (I feel like he could be from the Montreal area) Outdoorsman Bird. And I love it. I like it when I feel a villager's personality and appearance really match up, or when a villager's appareance adds a bit of story to them when you can fill in the blanks, like Ribbot or Coco or, yes, Jacques.

Cyrano: Do you enjoy brightly-colored animals of not always appreciate species with AMAZING EYEBROW GAME? Do you like or need a cranky? Cyrano might just be the villager for you. He just looks satisfyingly cranky for his personality, but not with the sort of details that never work for me -- just a strong pair of eyebrows and a freckle-y nose.

I obviously have more, but I feel like I'll just keep explaining my own sensibilities over and over again.
Actually, here's a tip that I think is better than any single recommendation: go look at dream towns. When you see villagers in motion, you might just find some things that are unexpectedly charming that make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Dear Fields,

Have you given Ozzie a chance? He is a lazy koala. I have him in my new Bear town.

He is not a jock, so at least he won't be poor casting for Lyman.

He is a true lazy - he asks for fruit all the time. He is very generous - he gives me his furniture without me asking. I am trying to build up his house again.

He won't replace Lyman, but one day when Lyman comes back to you...you could have a fellow Aussie lazy koala to befriend Lyman.

Give Ozzie some thought. He is an adorable ol' bear. ;)

well i technically have all of my "dreamies" and honestly 90% of them are just because i like how they look ;u; but deirdre in particular i love because the uchi personality reminds me of my older sister. she also happens to share a birthday with my older brother. so shes like both of my siblings rolled into a villager. i do think deirdre is super cute but shes also ultra special to me and i'd love her even if she wasnt a cute deer with a pun-y name.

i also have recently fallen for daisy the dog, but thats because she reminds me of my puppy irl. to me the most meaningful/best dreamies are ones that have a personal importance
