You're making the right decision. It's spectacular graphics if you have a TV that supports HD. Also, the DLC for the game is schweet (Don't worry, it's not like the Animal Crossing DLC.)

Then I got my PS2 a few years later.
I got my wii a few years after it was released.
Now i'm getting my PS3 a few years later.
