I just really love the fact that the events might be different next year, and the fact that we don’t know what’s coming!!!

This is the first time I’ve actually consistently played an animal crossing game!!! As usually I’d just be like, ‘Eh, I’ll play that event next year’ and then I’d forget

I don’t think I’ve ever played an animal crossing event on the actual day of the holiday except the one time I played bunny day on City Folk because I forgot Easter was a thing. lol

Honestly I just think it’s a smart move? Like, it’s all free, does it really matter that it ‘should’ have been in the base game?
It’s actually making this game way more enjoyable for me. Anyone else feel the same?

This sounds amazing if it is true. It will certainly keep the game fresh and interesting. 😊

I'd be interested in learning if there is a correlation between liking the update system and also liking surprises.

I personally really dislike surprises. I'm the kind of person to look up a movie's plot before I go so I know exactly what I'm about to watch. I plan my vacations quite carefully by picking all the places I want to go, booking tickets in advance, and listing out exactly what I want to do.

In this case, I really dislike not knowing what to expect from updates. Are we ever going to get more NPCs? Buildings? Furniture items? Quality of life updates? All we know is that updates are coming, not what's included in them.

For me, the updates that we have are very bare and do not help to justify the $80 CAD I spent on the game. Yes, I've had a lot of fun so far, but the lack of substantive updates which keep my interest in the game is quite disappointing. This is the least I have ever played an Animal Crossing game in my years of being a fan of the franchise, and this is my least favourite game in the franchise.

I see updates as being things which should well, update the material that we have in the game. Not add things which I personally expected to be included in the game from the start. I will admit, I did have expectations for what this game would look like, but I do not think they are that unreasonable when looking at what was included in past titles (and for a lesser price than $80 CAD as well).

You arent alone, I really like the way they are doing updates as well. It gives me new content to look forward to, whether I know what's coming or not.

Because they were clear from the beginning that they will continue to bring new content to the game in the form of updates, I never really looked at the base game and thought "this is awful, it doesn't have everything,". I was thinking "this is a fantastic start and I cannot wait to see what else is added in the future!"

When I look back at New Leaf and see how much more content this game has already, especially in the way of customization, I'm really pleased with it so far.

*the following is not targeted to any specific person*: People are allowed to be miserable if they want, but I see some people taking it too far when they sit there foaming at the mouth with cries of "this game doesn't have the specific furniture set/NPC that I personally want! It's the biggest disappointment of the year!!". And I really wonder if they expect every other video game to be made personally for them or if they are just being hard on this specific game. I hope any of those people can learn to find some happiness and joy in their hobbies ^-^

Imma be honest, as someone who joined the game late this is just making me highkey panic if items become retired because events may be different next year. There is going to be discouragement there in enticing late joiners (like myself) to make the plunge if you knew certain items will be forever out of your reach unless you have a very generous friend or are willing to do online and pay what I can only imagine to be inflated prices for the previous year's items. Yes, I'm aware almost all games have retired items, but that's never been something in a main Animal Crossing game. If you missed out on something, there was always next year. There wasn't a massive amount of pressure to always be online and playing as the game has always kinda marketed a casual atmosphere to it. I burned out of Pocket Camp hard because of this and out of most games in general, having FOMO about retired items. I really enjoyed the main Animal Crossing games because that pressure was never there and I could afford to take my time and prioritize.

So I guess tldr: new events are welcomed. retiring old event prizes annually is not.

I mentioned this in another thread, where I said they could scrap Bunny Day next year and just do something spring like, like St. Patrick's themed or something. But then I realize people who didn't have the game last April might be super disappointed, and I don't want anyone to feel like they're missing out on stuff. Then again, I honestly don't think that they would "retire" things like that. I can see them changing events a bit, but I'm sure the items/DIY stuff will remain consistent themselves.

My biggest gripe is how vague their future updates are. It's not like I want an exact list of what future events hold but I'd like to know a little more than Franklin and Jingle will appear.
I know a video will be dropped closer to the event day that showcases all the goodies but something more visual would be fulfilling like a banner.

If I think about games that constantly push content out like mobile or mmos, they will always have a small graphic like a banner or a sneak peak of something.

In Nintendo's direct videos, they just have the special character's heads which I don't know what to do with that, lol. Am I going to make a mushroom stew or push Franklin into the oven? I want a little more.

agreed, if they retired old event rewards forever that would suck. i guess one thing they could to do "keep things fresh" without retiring old prizes for good is to keep them going on a rotating schedule, much like how you receive different mom items from year to year.

They don't want to overpromise. Some features may be being worked on and hopefully available to go with a certain update, but if its not ready, then they can just no publish it. If they put it in a trailer, people are gonna be annoyed that the trailer wasn't an accurate representation.

Plenty of people are upset at the Datamines and what was "shown" in them not appearing.

Items won’t be retired though, you can TT back and get them, that’s how I got some of the spring stuff I missed out on because I took a hiatus. Choosing not to TT, even not for some old items, is not Nintendo forcing people to trade online
Also the prices will always be cheap because so many people do TT

I love this formula too! I normally don't like suprises and I like to know whats going on. But every other AC game i got bored after 3 months and maybe picked it up again 3 or 4 more times after that.

But now i had been playing 5 months untill i burned out a bit, but ever since i at least played once a weak, and in October almost every day again due to halloween!
I know its personal to everyone, but i don't really mind everything missing or different compared to other ac games, as long as the updates keep making me come back. I think that is more important to me

I prefer it this way. I'm actively playing and returning to the game more frequently than I did New Leaf.

I really like the updates style as well. It keeps it fresh and gives me something to get excited about and come back to. It plays well with non-TTers and feels like a much more natural way to play in my opinion. :lemon:

I do love the formula. I may not like that it's taking them sooo long to add in things that should have been in the base game, but it does keep me coming back for more. I played new leaf, but found it hard to want to keep playing month to month. If they had a similar formula maybe I would have played more.

You’re my spirit animal. I used to enjoy this game so much at the start but once I terraformed my island, I just lost interest. I don’t even play it as much anymore. Just coming in and checking out the new updates as and when they happen. I also cannot stop thinking about this and why it’s so hard for me to have motivation to play this game compared to the others in the franchise. It’s a bit sad.

i mean, i don't think adding the events makes it new or exciting, it just fills out the void of missing features in the game. i thought it was exciting in previous games when events came closer and closer, i didn't need updates for that feeling.

don't get me wrong, i still like updates but i don't think it's a better way to put events into the game than to have them there from the beginning.

It's cool that things might be different, but I wish they put more effort into things outside events. Like with New Leaf it felt like you were upgrading your town by playing and unlocking stuff. Now everything is just there and you wait for an event for something slightly different.

I do enjoy the fact that new things are consistently getting released, but equally I would've at least liked to have known what new things would be released over time when I bought the game? as a huge AC fan it was a no brainer for me to buy NH even when we didn't see what was and wasn't in the game to a full extent, but if buying it would've dangerously dented my wallet I probably would've liked for there to be a list of upcoming content so I knew whether it would be worth it or not. idk if that made sense haha, basically I would've liked to have known WHAT new content is being released throughout the games life, but not necessarily WHEN specifically

I'm also a fan of the update style though I imagine the summer update was confusing for those in the southern hemisphere. It gets me excited for the holiday events that I never really did in New Leaf.

I don't mind the updates. I just thought the town development system would progress more like New Leaf and not when Nintendo decides we have had a long enough time between upgrades. I would prefer to have stuff like that programmed into the game and have updates be delightful icing on the cake content.

I would like to have news be more transparent. If they released a statement saying when they planned to update, I would feel a lot better. Even if they told us they were planning an update a month.
