It's done through a free preference pane known as Glimmer Blocker. It adds a bunch of features to different browsers you have installed, though most features work only in Safari. There's stuff like Javascript/CSS modification, URL keyword expansions, and a ton more. =3 It comes prepackaged with ad filters, too.

It also can work as an adblocking proxy for any devices you may have connected to your computer, and can be found here. =)

I could just give you the CSS and Javascript to insert into GlimmerBlocker if you have Mac OS X... It works on Safari, Google Chrome, and Opera, as far as I know. Don't know why it doesn't work in Firefox. =p
