How to trigger the secret island event? (May 1st-7th)

Is the May 1st-7th event not triggering for some people? I get the bulletin to check in with resident services but I don't get any special dialogue to trigger it! How does it work? Has anyone had success in going?

It's probably going to be unlocked by a minor update, just like Bunny Day.
